Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
Hey everyone.
I`ve had a few customers with Weathertech or similar floor mats recently and seem to struggle with making them look as nice as the rest of the vehicle.
I`ve used CGs APC to scrub but never get great results. I tried LA Awesome with better results but I`m hesitant to use that regularly.
I haven`t dressed floor mats for fear of them being slippery but know it would help a lot with the overall appearance.
How do you clean these mats, and do you/what do you use to dress them? The only product I have considered that`s in my arsenal is CG natural shine.
Thanks.

Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
Yeah, I`d agree with Ron and skip the dressing...
Optimum Power Clean is great on the Weathertech mats for your basic clean up.
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
try this BLACKFIRE All-In-One All Purpose Cleaner
as for dressings, I`m with the Tom and Ron, skip the dressing
maybe some 303 Aerospace Protectant 16oz., spray on and wipe off

There is a video of Daren from Auto Fetish recommending Stoners More Shine, IIR.

Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
I have had good Luck with Meguiar`s non acid wheel cleaner D143, and I tried last time sorta dressing them with Meguiar`s quick interior detailer D149 after and they did look a lot better and were not slick.
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
Weathertech does have a "8LTC8K" protectant that somehow dries to a nonslip finish. I don`t think it gets much play on here, but it`s pretty nice to work with.
Adam`s In n Out is good too, IMHO.
I used to use a lot of Autoglym Vinyl/Rubber care (the yellow label), but the Wife would complain about a little slickness. The scent of the AG is great though.

This on steroids.

Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
The Weathertech nonslip dressing mentioned above does a great job of making the mats look almost new with no slippery finish on the mats.
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
Thanks for all the advice everyone! I`m still in the air about weather to dress them or not, but definitely makes me more comfortable in the fact that I haven`t been doing them before. I`ll need to get my hands on some mats to try some of the dressings on and see if anything would be effective without making me liable for anything.

This conversation reminds me of the conversation about putting Armor All on motorcycle tires and the seat
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
Best results are similar to what you did, we use LATA on them, scrub hard, pressure wash, then use a very diluted water based dressing. Brings back the color and satin gloss as originally looked, without being too slick. We always ask the customer during pre-inspection about how they feel about gloss, low gloss or just clean and dry. Thing with gloss is you can hide a lot of things like scuffs that show up bad if you don`t use any dressing at all
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
I get my rubber (Winter) mats very clean with LATA. I spray liberally on a wet mat, let it sit for a while, then go at it with a car wash brush on a pole. The nylon type you wouldn`t use on your paint.
I`ve never dressed them, but I`m sure Duragloss 253 would be appropriate. I use it, but only on my tires.
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
I wonder how Tuff Shine would work on rubber matts?
It`s certainly not greasy or slippery.
Re: Dressing and cleaning floor mats?
I was hesitant using LATA on them thinking it was too strong and may have an adverse effect on the color. I`ll definitely try doing a whole set next time I run into it.
Also a car wash brush is a great idea!
