The FLEX XC3401 XMT Intermediate Swirl Remover Kit is designed to correct mild to moderate paint imperfections without the risks of rotary polishers. As you may well know, rotary (a.k.a. a circular) polishers spin very fast at a high speed and can therefore burn the paint quite easily. This kit includes the FLEX XC3401 VRG Orbital Polisher, a true orbital polisher. Orbital polishers are safe and, in the case of the FLEX, it removes swirls as well as a rotary.
The FLEX XC3401 VRG Polisher has a random orbital motion, much like a Porter Cable 7424. However, the FLEX has a longer stroke so the pad has a bigger orbit. The FLEX throws the pad 8 mm off center, resulting in a true orbital motion (less jiggle, more polishing).This bigger orbit gives the FLEX XC3401 superior correction abilities compared to a lot of DA polishers. Even with the increased performance, the FLEX XC340 is easy on the paint compared to a rotary. There’s still very little chance of burning the paint with the FLEX XC3401.
The FLEX XC3401 is a variable speed polisher. You can increase the speed as you become comfortable with it. It accelerates smoothly and continues to move in a uniform motion, even under load. The FLEX 3401 includes a 6 inch backing plate that works with all your 6.5 and 7.5 inch pads. Four Lake Country CCS Foam Pads are included in the FLEX XC3401 XMT Intermediate Swirl Remover Kit.
First, the orange pad is your go-to pad for swirl removal. It’s a dense foam that works on everything from water spots to oxidation to swirls.
The white pad is for lighter polishing. The white foam has some density to it but it’s not suited for leveling paint. Use it with finishing polishes and prewax cleaners.
Two gray pads are included. These are very soft. Use them for wax or sealant application. You might also use a very fine finishing polish to jewel the paint.
Now you know what your pads and polisher can do; that leaves the polishes. XMT Series swirl removers are formulated to be easy to use, not fussy at all, and easy on the paint. Diminishing abrasives break down to a fine polishing dust to prevent micro-marring. The XMT polishes are numbered with XMT #3 being the most aggressive in this kit and XMT #1 being the least aggressive. The XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze is to enhance the shine after polishing.

The order of application goes like this, assuming you’ve got moderate swirls and you need all three steps:
1. Attach the orange pad to your FLEX. Mist it with the included Pinnacle XMT Polishing Pad Conditioner. This product primes the foam to prevent that initial dry buffing caused when you put dry foam to paint. Squeeze a line of XMT Intermediate Swirl Remover #3 onto the pad and place it onto the paint. Set the FLEX on at a moderate speed and work your way up to that speed as you spread the polish. Make several passes until the polish appears to be broken down. Buff the paint with one of the included towels. If you’re not satisfied, add more polish and go back over the section again. Also remember that your next step will remove any light hazing. Work in 2 x 2 sq. ft. sections.
2. Next use the white polishing pad to apply XMT Ultra Fine Swirl Remover #1. This serves as your finishing polish. Follow the same steps as above.
3. Now put a gray pad onto your FLEX polisher. Apply a line of XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze to the pad. Turn the machine on at a low speed. Spread the glaze evenly in a 2 x 2 sq. ft. section and then buff with a microfiber towel. The glaze contains carnauba to enhance the shine, but you really should apply a coat of wax for long term paint protection.
4. As you finish with each pad, take a moment to mist it generously with XMT Polishing Pad Cleaner. The cleaner will immediately start breaking up the polish residue in the foam so it’s easier to clean at the end of your detail session.
