Pro Polish separated - can it be saved?

I was inspecting my products (checking for separation, etc) and noticed that the Pro Polish had separated. I gave the bottle a good shape but it did not help much. I opened up the container and it looks like a paste on sides but liquid in the center. It was a 90% full 32 oz bottle. Oh well.

I`d say if doesn`t reconstitute for at least a little while, it`s shot. I`ve used stuff that, when shaken, will stick together for less than an hour, but as long as I keep shaking it between squirts, it seems to work well enough.

Also, if you ever get really bored, you could try shaking it as you watch a tv program. If it won`t mix together after an hour of continuous shaking, at least you got an arm workout.

Shake harder ... or as Beemerboy did, he used some kind of thin tool to scrape it off the sides and bottom and then shook it and it went back to normal ..

Re: Pro Polish separated - can it be saved?

I try to shake my polish once a month.
My PB-PP separates into layers and it don`t take long to do it but I shake the H##! out of it about once a month and it mixes ok.

I shake anything that I plan on using I even shake S&W every few minutes while I`m using it.
A few shakes once in a while can`t hurt

Re: Pro Polish separated - can it be saved?

I just noticed my PP separated into two sections one section about 3/4 of it is white thicker polish and 1/4 of it is a yellow liquid. However, I have shook it for a while and it mixed together. Since I have so many variety`s of polish I cannot remember how thick of a consistency PP is suppose to be? I shook it and put some on one of my foam pads and it was pretty thin, however it still worked effectively.

yes, Stephan, it is supposed to be thin

Groebuck ..do you really think they would do that? I have a few gallons in need of shaking

Bart that is what people are supposed to do, but it`s a hard habit to get into

This is a very good practice with virtually any product, especially polishes.

Over the years, I`ve had a variety of products that have separated, due simply to time. I`m not as disciplined as Bart, I don`t get out to shake the products on a monthly basis. I have a heated garage and the cold has never been a factor though my garage will get up in the low 80`s in the summer. It`s true some products can`t be saved by shaking alone. Before I get to the point that I will pitch a valued product, I`ll try warming the product using a double boiler (maybe to around 140 degrees). Surprisingly this has worked on more products than it hasn`t. These same products have been fine months later.

I shake my products before using. The thick residue is stuck against the sides and not the bottom. I am not sure I can get it all mixed.

Re: Pro Polish separated - can it be saved?

I have been working on a 1gal jug of P.P. for over 5yrs and it does settle and separate... with a product this old and 1/2 of it`s its life was in the back of my truck subject to heat range well above 100 degrees, the container has become fragile. Steve has been on me to buy a new jug for at least 2yrs now but I`m to damn cheep/stubborn to give up the ghost on what still works well... Very well.

what I have done and works very good for me even with a fragile jug is take a "small" handful of 304 (CLEAN) stainless washers, loc-washers and nuts ( I have 5-6 in a gal jug) and stick them in the jug as an agitator. shake well before using.
