Scratches on top of rear bumper

Since I can`t upload pics on this site, please go here: Pictures by mwcate - Photobucket
Hopefully it`ll work. Looks like the previous owner slid grocery bags out of the trunk. Went over it a bunch of times with my PC on 6 with orange pad & SSR 2.5 tonight. Every time I did it it got a little better, but it`s really slow. I`m thinking about hitting it with rubbing compound.
I clayed the car & was going to hit spots with SSR 1, but decided to do the whole car. There was just a minor amount of swirling, & I think the SSR 1 took care of it. I`ve had both bottles of swirl remover for a while & this is my 1st time using them. I`m getting my bottle of Black Hole shipped tomorrow & I`m trying to get the car ready!

the scratches do not look that bad. How deep are they? Are the fingernail deep? Are you breaking down the 2.5? It looks like a couple passes with 2.5 using a PC and an orange pad should clear it up.

Keep in mind there is only so much clear and each time you hit it with polish you are taking a small amount off. The areas that you really need to be careful with are the edges. If your going to continue to buff I would recommend taping the edges. You might have to live with some of those scratches.

It`s a lot better than when I started. I`ve made a bunch of passes, probably 30 or 40. I`ll go back & forth a few times, wipe it off, inspect, & then apply again. The scratches aren`t too deep, not many are fingernail deep. I`m using the 2.5 straight.

good advice has been offered ... also remember that the paint on the bumper is different than that of the body. The flex agents added make the paint softer and it may not be as thick as the rest of the car.
Be careful not to go too far ... the Black Hole followed by EX or Natty`s Blue should make it really hard to find
life is short ..do it while you can

Re: Scratches on top of rear bumper

Thanx, everyone. I had a feeling that if I was going to be able to clear them up I should have by now. I think I will just let them ride & see how the Black Hole does.
Doing the whole car with SSR 1 really helped too. I was very pleased with how it turned out. I had detailed it in my garage a couple of weeks ago, & couldn`t really see all the swirls until I got it outside. Plus I used EX-P & Natty`s White last time. This time I`ll be using EX & Natty`s Blue along with the Black Hole.

Re: Scratches on top of rear bumper

I got home late from work tonight, & it was almost dark. When I came in I saw that my bottle of Black Hole had arrived. I normally don`t like to detail in just the light in my garage, but I couldn`t wait. Man, what a difference! I wish I could take some pics that would show how much more gloss & clarity the paint has, but that will have to wait since I work tomorrow & I`m going out of town for the weekend. I`m truly impressed with Black Hole, & I can`t wait until I get to try it on my black T-Bird.
