I had a question asked of me and wasn`t quite sure how to answer.

If you always seal then wax....if your using P-w-S can you top that off with a paste wax?

Sure.
And in the case of PwS, you can apply it, (a sealant), over the paste wax. The next application of PwS will act as a cleaner prep and remove the wax so the sealant will bond.
Using PwS and following with a paste wax seems like a good procedure.
You can continue to apply more wax as you wish and then just use the PwS to start the whole sequence over again.

While I don`t do it, I have read that you can do the same thing with PwC.
It has been stated tha both PwS and PwC work as a prep for either wax or sealant.
Personally, I use PwS if I am going to follow up with a sealant, but several members say they use PwC prior to a sealant with no bonding problems.

I`ve done pws with a wax topper, no problem.

I`ve never waxed over PwS, but I don`t know why you couldn`t, as PB has confirmed. I have waxed over PwC with no problems. I`ve never applied either product over a wax base. But I have tried the other PB` sealant offerings over a "glaze" base w/questionable results.

I`m not saying there is anything wrong with topping them, just saying it might not be necessary.

Charles this is the question that I had about this...when you are talking to someone that had general knowledge of what processes go into layering product on a car...They understand to polish, seal and wax...once wax is on the car you don`t use a sealant on top of that...We all here know that, but when you take a product like Steve`s that has carnuba / wax added to it then tell the person that its OK to seal over that...it goes in direct conflict with what they have been taught to understand about the order.


My question was how do you explain that to them?

On another forum I was telling someone about the order of layering...then I suggested P-w-C and then seal...that opened up a can of worms...and thus inspired my question here.


I`m only looking for a logical explanation so I can help them understand it

What I think I would do if I was telling a customer about the steps I was going to take.
Leave out any that don`t apply to a particular job.
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Polish
4. Cleaner/prep
5. LSP
I wouldn`t use brand names at all.

Actually, I would avoid telling them any more than I had to since they probably wouldn`t understand what I was talking about and tell their friends a completely wrong version of what was done.
Clay? Why would you use your kid`s clay on a car?
Polish? By hand or with a buffer? Hand wax is best. That`s what they do at all the detail shops.
My friend had his car buffed and they really messed things up. Takes all the paint off, too.
