Autozone carries Viking stuff, but I think walmart does also. They are always out of the thicker pads w/ the handle over here in my neck of the goods...

AutoZone here also has the Viking foam pad, but doesn`t have any other foam pads. Kragen has the cheaper 3-pack Meguiars pads.

Solely for laziness, I`ve been using these cotton "diapers" i get from the local pep boys. They are a really, really, fine quality 100% cotton, and come in a roll of 3. I know that "old school" detailers used to swear by cotton diapers and there`s probably alot of other people out there that use them, but I don`t know of anyone else that uses them and posts to this board.

Anyways, I`ve been using them for 4 or 5 months on my bmw, and they work great. I put on zaino with a foam applicator (the best way!) and take it off with one of the diapers. Also I use the diapers for QD with Z6. They can and sometimes do leave a teeny bit of very fine lint, but that improves if you wash them first.

Just thought I`d throw this out there as an alternative to MF.

Thanks for the link to linensource, Neomatrix!!! I ordered 5 white irregular Charisma hand towels today from them, for a total of $22 including shipping. The salesperson I spoke with says, "I don`t want to be personal, but what are you going to use these towels for?" I said, "Auto detailing". I figured she knew something was up. She said that someone else within the hour called to order towels for the same reason. She asked, "Do you have a Mercedes?" I said, "No, BMW." :-) She said that the other guy said that they were better for the paint, and I agreed because they`re more plush than most towels. I told her she`d probably be getting more orders. :-)

I`m going to use these towels for following up after the Water Bandit when drying.

I`m also going to order another 10 microfiber towels from neatitems.com. I need more towels for removing wax and polish/sealant. I already have one from CMA, and I have one coming from Tim at tacscar, and one on order with YoSteve. I`m saving the good mf towels for quick detailing.

<strong class=`bbc`>I ordered from this site and I hope to get those Charisma towels next week. The prices are lower than the fieldcrest outlet store.
Check this link: www.linensource.com or call 18004349812.

Here`s the direct link to the sale page: http://www.thompsongroup.com/ls/temp...artid=wwkx7443

If the link doesn`t work, just go to the site and look under Bath/Charisma Near perfect Set.

BTW, the white bath towels were $6.30, white hand towels were $3.40 ( $2.99 for the linen color) and white wash towel were $1.60. Shipping is about $4.95 for orders up to $20. [/b]</blockquote>
ok, im confused on what towels is what. im assuming "bath towels" are the large ones u dry bodies with. so what are "hand" and "wash" towels? is hand like a long rectangular one and wash is like a small square face towel? and for zaino veteran users, do i really need a bath size towel? i mean thats pretty big and thick when ur using a folded bath towel to buff stuff. or is the hand or wash towel sufficient enough already?

also, does anyone know where i can get microfiber Magic Towels? that pro auto care doesnt have it in stock.

Buy the Turtle Wax Microfiber towels. They are plush and cheap. They are not shown on their website yet but I saw them in a couple of stores and bought a couple. Work as good as a 14 dollar microfiber towel. They are too soft too scratch.

Based on another post on here that the Turtle Wax Emerald Series wax gives a car a great shine, maybe Turtle Wax is turning their bad name around.

ok so im hearing great things about the viking applicator pads. so i go out to autozone and kragen and walmsrt looking for them. but i couldnt find the ones that u guys say have some kind of handle on them so its easier to grip. all i keep seeing are the viking ones that are plain foam pads wrapped in terry cloth without handles. sold in a pair of 2. are these the same quality as the ones with the handles? because i dont mind not having an easier grip on the pad, i just want what many of u guys think is great for applying things. so are they the same pad in terms of material and make?

Here`s a pic of the Viking applicator, just in case someone out there has no idea what they look like, but is interested in trying one out.

See what boredom and a digi-cam do to you? I`m taking pictures of sponges, fer-cryin-out-loud.

wow! that was nothing close of what i imagined it to look like. i didnt even know it was a purely a foam applicatior. that thing looks pretty big and thick too.

but arent foam applicators a bit more dangerous to use than terry covered foam applicators? in terms of scratching that is. i do know they spread things thinner and easier... do any of u have experience using this with Zaino and Klasse?

do u guys know any place else that carries these kind of pads? my local autozone seems to suck and never have the stuff alot of people say they do.

As far as scratching, I don`t think the concern is that the foam itself will scratch; rather, a particle of grit that is trapped between the applicator and the paint may cause scratching. If using cotton terry, the piece of grit may get drawn into the nap, preventing the scratch (or it might not, roll the dice).

That said, I only apply products using foam after a thorough wash *and* going over the car again with a QD to make sure it`s as clean as I can make it. I switched from cotton to foam (using Zaino), and don`t think I`ll be going back to cotton; I use less product, get more even coats, and have less problems with residue removal since the switch.

Sorry I can`t help you find them in your area; around here, AutoZone is the only place I`ve been able to find them . . . O`Reilly`s (chain of parts stores here in Omaha) carries Viking products - mitts, towels, sponges, brushes, etc. - but no applicators. If O`Reilly exists in your area, it might be a spot to check, as they at least seem to carry Viking`s stuff.

    Good luck,

    Tort

Heres another picture of the applicator(s)... heheheh. Look at the size difference compared to the 3-pack Meguiar`s one. (Sorry about the water spots, I didn`t Klasse this counter)

What to do when you have nothing else to do:
