I don`t like using the BP from the Makita kit. Get a new one and the pads too at the same time. You can get a 5" BP and use it with 5.5" pads or get a 6" BP and use it use it 6.5" pads. It`s ok to use 7.5" pads with your 6.5" BP, but I would rather use a 6.5" pads. Lake Country BP are great so as Meg`s.

I have a backing plate made by PRO that has a 6" velcro with a centering hole but also has an additional inch of rubber that supports a larger pad. I only use a backing plate for wool pads as I use the edge 2000 with 6" DA pads on my rotary (Makita) They work great and I have much more control using them plus no vibration from off center pads plus dual sided for using 2 different polishes on same pad. I also have a full array of 8" flat and a few 8" wavy edge pads.
Has anyone used the new rotary backing plates from Gloos It? I`m thinking about one. From everything that I`ve read, they seem to be nice.
Joshua 1:9- Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be affraid, nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Happy 2010 everyone!
I ended up getting the Megs W64 & W66 backing plates.
The W66 looks similar to the 3M one. But the 3M is quite expensive! $70?
