I wish I had the Flex back in my detailing days!

Re: Working With a FLEX Polisher

I have used the Flex a few times. I really like it and can not wait to get mine in a few weeks. I use only 4" pads on my PC and 6.5" with Flex. So far I have used the same polishes, Prima Swirl, SIP, M105... I do find finsihing polishes work out much better with a FLex then PC

I`ve been contemplating getting a flex. I have 2 DA`s a Makita. I figure the Flex would be great for the express details to cut time.

For those of us with 4-in and 5-in pads, it seems an even more expensive jump. What is the smallest pad you can get working with a Flex DA?

    6 inch.

I would recommend atleast a 6½" pad though to keep the backing plate from doing any damage.

The 7½" curved CCS Lake Country pads work well with the FLEX too.

When I first got it I was like a kid looking for scratches to buff out. I remember being the same way with my PC though too.

Re: Working With a FLEX Polisher

I would love to have a Flex, but I cant justify the cost. I don`t do enough detailing. But, I do have my Makita 9227, so I could just keep learning how to use that.

If the main benifit of the flex over a pc is it`s correction ability then why not just use a rotory?

    Cuz I`m afraid to.

The flex has all but replaced my pc. All I use the pc for is to apply sealer, etc.

The dual action is supposed to be a lot safer for those of us with limited to no rotary experience.
I still don`t believe in grit guards.

^^^^^^ Yeah what he said. I have rotary experience but I would much rather use the FLEX because it`s a safer but still very effective alternative.

I used the analogy a while back that likened a dual action polisher to driving instead of walking (by hand). I think it was Joyride who chimed in and said the FLEX was like a Ferrari of the dual action family. That is very true.

So if you don`t like to fly (rotary), but still want to get there fast, choose the Ferrari (FLEX).

Speaking of Ferraris. The annual Ferraris on the Circle car show is next weekend. I`m looking to add to my client list this year.

Re: Working With a FLEX Polisher

I have read stories of the flex smoking from the backing plate area, Has this been a problem for any of you flex users? Was this a "first generation" flex problem that was worked out by changes in manufacturing or do some people just get bad ones? If the flex is such a good machine then I want one but this smoking issue scares me because my past experience at taking such a chance tells me that I`ll get a bad one.

That issues isn`t a manufacturing defect as it seems - so all of them are the same. There was one point when there was a BP change but that was just at the introduction of the Flex on US soil. The smoking issues seems to be from having an unsecured backing plate bolt or from excess pressure. It seems to be a different animal which must be treated differently from other polishers.

FWIW, I just got a Flex also but have yet to use it ... it`ll be a fun spring!

Is the flex heavier or lighter than your typical rotary.
May have to give in and give the flex a try.

can the edge 2000 setup be used with the flex? That would be the deal sealer for me to make the purchase.
