    Need Help Finishing Down

So this 59 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud that had be repainted came in looking like this, bird etchings not shown:

I tried every combination of pad and product - the paint was really `hard` - and went with a Megs light wool w/ 205 on a flex 3401. Did the job. I followed up with 205 a B&S green pad on the GG DA. Followed that with a B&S Blue w/Menz 4500 and still ended up with this:

If you look closely at where the leds hit the paint you can see I wasn`t able to get it to finish down perfectly.

I tried speed 5 with light pressure, 4 with no pressure, etc. etc.

I did hit it one last time and was able to get it somewhat better, but I`m feeling like either my technique or something`s not right.

Any help appreciated. Finished photos in a day or so.

Do you have some straight on shots of the paint? It`s hard to tell on an angle.

That`s the best I could shoot to show the results of 4500 on a blue. If you expand the image it may provide a better view.

lemme know how it works, if its still micro marring try a red ultra finishing b n s pad.

I did read recently kevin brown mentioning that a customer had a hard time finishing down a black paint and it was micro marring with any polish and pad combo he used and i guess what was happening was the paint residue was lodging itself into the pad and working against the paint, creating the micromarring.

    Mind = blown!!!!

What MF though? If a low gsm you might be doing it unknowingly. It`s happened to me before.

Those definitively look like towel marks vs. not finishing down correctly. Are you getting a haze in the paint from the DA polisher?

    Need Help Finishing Down

Looks like toweling marks to me.
Doesn`t look like marring or typical swirls.

    Since I`m a complete noob.

When you guys say toweling marks do you mean that a cheaper MF towel is used and caused that?

    Yes, no and maybe...

Inferior microfiber towels OR even high-quality towels which have abrasive grit trapped in them can cause scratching (as can the compound dust of older-style rubbing compounds).

For whatever reason, the towel dragging across the paint is creating damage. Even super soft paints can scratch easily with all but the softest towels.

There are very few MF towels out there that won`t leaves marks on soft paint. One is the "crazy pile" towel by MF madness. I just got some "woobies" from AG. I have a feeling these won`t leave marks either. Will be testing them this weekend.
