I am a newbie to the rotary. I got a Flex Pe14 on sale when PAC was shutting down.
So far, I like it a lot. The quality of the machine is outstanding. One thing I like is that it is much quieter than a DA.
But I am just now figuring out how to use it. My first attempt left a few holograms so an expert I am not.
Todd,
Great review of one fantastic machine. I wasn`t particularly fond of the price but all the Flex machines are quite pricy.
I was really surprised how friendly this machine is to use and while I initially questioned my sanity for buying another polisher, I`m convinced it was money well spent....

How`s the noise level compared to a 9227? Love how quiet the Makita is.
My Flex 3403 just burned up on me three days ago. It never did like low rpm`s much, and it was waaay too noisy.

Thanks for taking the time to evaluate the tool. I think my next major purchase will be one after a steamer. Thank again
Another great review !!
Quieter than a Makita... hmm...Definitely something to consider, but I just looked at the price and am currently suffering from sticker shock.
Guess I`ll wait for a used one to show up on flea bay.

Until I saw this review, I had honestly given up on Flex. I bought my 3403 about four years ago (replaced a Porter Cable rotary), and paid about the same as what the PE-14 is going for. Now it`s a burned up paper weight.
While I loved the light weight, it was always underpowered, overheated, and didn`t like slow RPM`s at all. And did I mention the noise? I used to think Greg Nichols was just being generous when he`d hand me his Makita on jobs we were working on together. Turns out, he just hated the noise from the Flex!
So I had settled on buying a 9227... until I read this. Glad to hear that Flex has stepped up on their product quality.
Wish they had some sort of a trade in program for unhappy 3403 owners...

Really wish I had one of these. Being just a hobbyist, I don`t really need one, but I do love my 3401!
Great review on a fantastic tool! I absolutely love mine, and really love the way it feels during long corrections.
