What is the life of a backing plate?How long to they last for? I know they have the velcro on them to hold the cutting pads but I`m sure they don`t last forever. I have the 5" yellow one that came with my PC

They are good until the pads don`t stay on them anymore. I can`t put an exact time period but you should be fine for a few years easily. I`ve had mine for 2-3 years and no problems.
