Which polish/pad combination would you choose for this paint?

Looking for some recommendations on polishing my truck preparing it for a coating. It`s a black 2014 Silverado with light swirl marks, pictures make it look much worse than in person but it gives you an idea. I have about half bottles of D300 and m205 left, but will need all new pads.

Would a microfiber cutting pad with the D300 be overkill for this? I previously used that combination and ended with m205 on a green pad and it finished well enough for my old truck that was very swirled, but this paint isn`t as bad.

Also since I will be coating, would it be worth following up with something like PO85RD on a black pad?

Any recommendations on how you would approach this paint would be greatly appreciated!

Wanted to add that I know there are many factors that would go in to this to give a definite answer. Just looking for some recommendations since I need all new pads I cant do as much trial and error without buying much more than I`ll ever use

Depending on the vehicle size, I will use a 5.5 or 6in pad. I have the Meguiars microfiber kit with the D300,301. I also have their Diamond cut kit with pads included. M105 is good but the dusting is horrible

I`d try Griots mf pad w/ a finishing pad on a small section of the hood. Rupes blue & yellow combo works great. Or a Menzerna fg400, 2500 combo.

Have you polished this truck before? Reason I ask is some of the new black GM`S can have some really tricky paint. For these vehicles I tend to stay away from the SMAT type products such as m205/m105 etc.

I would look at some of the Menzerna line up. Fg400 if needed. Pf2500 and SF 3800. If the truck isn`t too bad pf2500 and sf3800 would probably be a good combination.

Always do some test spots before proceeding with the entire truck. Get your process dialed in.

Give it a test spot with M205 and a polishing pad and adjust from there.

Would not recommend this as a coating will be applied.

I haven`t polished this truck before, but I polished my last truck so I have a little experience with it. That was a black 2004 Sierra and I used the D300 on a microfiber cutting pad followed by m205 on green pad and it came out pretty good, I`m not sure if the paint is different now though.

This paint isnt nearly as bad as my last truck so I was hoping I wouldn`t have to be too aggressive. I have heard great things about the menzerna lineup, maybe ill give the pf2500/sf3800 a try and if I need something more aggressive I can use the D300 I still have. Which pads would you recommend for the pf2500 and sf3800?

So HD SPEED does not work well with any coating or just certain coating?

It`s an all in one that leaves protection behind. Coatings are best applied to bare paint.

Ok, thank you. I had forgotten that coatings are stand alone. I am hesitant to apply a coating to my DD

    Why hesitant?
