What do you reach for when trying to remove water etchings?

I bought a 14 Grand cherokee SRT this spring. At some point apparently the previous owner left some nasty water on the hood and it has etchings all over it. I tried my rupes UHS pads and polish on them and the hood is now beautiful and glossy but it did not remove the etchings. They are only on the hood thank god but before I do CSL+EXOV2 I want to remove them. What pad and compound would you reach for in this case? I figure compound them out and finish the hood with the uhs system then it will be coating ready.

Megs D300 and microfiber cutting disc might be worth a shot. While it didn`t eliminate the deep water spot etching on a 2004 black Corvette, it did minimize the harsh edges and remove the interior staining of the etchings. Didn`t have the guts to do anything more aggressive; wife`s car (prized possession) and all.

The Meg`s D300 or Menz 400 with the Meg`s microfiber cutting pads is a good idea. The Rupes blue with blue pad is a little less aggressive. You could try some Rupes blue compound with a microfiber cutting pad if you don`t want to buy more compounds.
