    Brand new truck..what the ?

Picked up my brand new truck 2 weeks ago and decided to do a little polishing.. Was using a yellow foam applicator with HD Speed by hand and this happened...Its right on an edge... which is why I didn`t use a polisher to begin with..Sent the dealer pics and he is forwarding to Toyota for direction...

That`s ugly. If you`re dealer isn`t extremely understanding you`re in trouble. My gut says they`ll point their finger and say you used an abrasive, it`s your problem.

You know, I guess I understand that mindset. After all every time we pick up a polisher it`s up to us to know whether or not there is enough material present to accomplish what it is we set out to do. I guess that position to be the same whether we use a machine or do it by hand. I for one would be very disappointed to find out the clear coat is that thin in this manner but it is our call.

If I was dumb enough to use a polisher on that edge then I deserve it...but I didn`t...no way using something as mild as speed by hand should cause that...I was using moderate pressure and not for very long.
I agree they are going to say I did something wrong..that`s why they asked what I used..when I told them the service manager said that what I did shouldn`t have caused that. We`ll see what they say..

Wolfe, don`t get me wrong. I`m not saying you`re dumb here, my heart goes out to you. Even using a machine, a mild pad and light polish should not have caused that on a 1st time polish. I just think most dealers would try to wiggle out of this. Gotta make you wonder what went on before you got the truck.

I would take it to a body shop and get paint readings and a quote to the condition of the paint, even if it costs you to do so.

I also would play dumb and tell them you were waxing it with something cleaner wax or something.

Gear no worries...I know what you meant...if it was my fault I would take full responsibility. In the end I may not matter. But I will get it fixed either way. If I have to pay then I will. At least it`s not in a noticeable area. I`m just hoping that a body shop will be able to fix it. My biggest advantage is the truck is only 2 weeks old.

I`d fight them, when you`re right you`re right. I think they need to know this is what they are selling. Paint that thin would likely fail early somewhere down the road and if any real time went by then they would obviously blame the owner. Getting measurements may reveal what is going on here.

The first thing they wanted was my vin. They probably want to track what batch it was in.

Re: Brand new truck..what the ?

Sometimes, new vehicles get bumped around before they get off the boat, railcar, etc., and there is a group of people there that finish the Make Ready Process, so the cars can run, and fix any body work, etc., that happened in the trip, so the vehicle is ready to sell..

They dont usually mess up like this....

No matter what you used, especially if you did it by hand, you should have not rubbed through the clear coat - ever -

I would say that something happened here either at the factory and it somehow got through; perhaps your entire truck got shortchanged on paint along with a bunch of others, or a Factory Fix after it got off the delivery conveyance whatever it was, was done by drunk clowns...

If they give you a bunch of hooey, I would get a lawyer to write a letter on his letterhead telling them you are asking them to take this back under the Lemon Law, and maybe you will buy another one that is not Factory Defective as this one appears to be..

    Good Luck !
