Re: Brand new truck..what the ?

I would bet it was a port repair that was done shoddy. A ptg is a must when picking up a new car I guess.

So now you Gotta say no prep and lets measure the paint in say 140 places. My dealer already thinks Im a basket case. And oh yea. The life time washes. No thanks. Ill take a few free oil changes instead.

I tried to get the Service Manager to give me an idea if he thought they would cover it but he wasnt biting lol. Cant blame him but I thought Id try. I guess the only thing they COULD say is since the rest of the paint is good its my problem. But that would be pretty weak.

    LoneWolf ---

I dont know what Thickness Gauge he had but I bet it was NOT calibrated...

No one has 410 - 390 Microns of total thickness - primer and paint on their vehicle - unless it has a buttload of bondo under the paint...

And that spot that rubbed off should have been well below 100 microns to be in trouble...

Did he jack his gauge to make you think there was lot of total thickness - primer and paint on the truck so you would leave ???

This IS, repeat, IS, Toyota Industries problem - it is a factory defect with their paint...

If they had rubbed out the paint there for some reason, it would have happened to them, right ?? So, were they going to blame you for them rubbing through it ?

Im not buying this - sorry...

And another thing - lose the Inept Service Manager and tell them you want the Zone Rep for Toyota to meet you so you can show him this disaster and tell him you want Toyota to fix or take back the truck and maybe you will take another one that has been thoroughly gone over by someone other than a drunk clown...

Or your Attorney will start the Lemon Law paperwork for starters...

Hmm thats interesting. Maybe I was reading the meter wrong? Should there be a decimal in there? I dont feel the SM was trying to get over on me at all. In fact he said that it shouldnt have happened.

ASSUMING the ETG is accurate/calibrated/used properly....Sounds to me like its been repainted, and badly.

Since the average truck buyer/leasor will never even (properly) detail it, I bet they just figured "eh, its a truck...nobody will ever notice or care".

Re: Brand new truck..what the ?

I would have liked to see the measurements compared to a similar vehicle on the lot. This could have given you a marker if the vehicle was repainted by seeing lower numbers on the other vehicle or if the numbers were similar it would have showed that the Thickness Gauge wasnt calibrated.

You can measure the opposite side of the truck.
