An update that may be of some help.
Patrick at Excel Detail was kind enough to supply me a link that has pad and product recommendations with the pads he is involved with listed.
    Thanks Patrick.

I still get confused when people ask me questions without telling me the brand of pad and just a color

All they need to do is say what the pad is intended for. Cutting, polishing, finishing.

    Re: Manufacturers Pad colors

OK, we should be corrected now atleast with the Propel pads.
Let me know if there are any others that need to be changed, a reference to the manufacturers list would be the best source for the info.

    Thanks,

    Re: Manufacturers Pad colors

Looking at 3M`s site I only see 2 different foam pads
A white compounding pad and a black polishing pad, are ther any other colors that you know of?

    Re: Manufacturers Pad colors

What you are going to use will depend on the condition of your paint.

I would make more use of the polishing pad, because the compunding pad sounds like a heavy cut pad. I have never used any 3M pads so maybe someone who has used them would like to chime in.

    Re: Manufacturers Pad colors

Won`t the type of machine being used come into play here?

Sunstealth: Are you using a rotary or a random orbital polisher?

There`s different opinions on this, but I personally wouldn`t use a compounding/heavy cut pad with a RO.

That would really depend on the product being used with it and with a RO you would definitely need to be using top speeds

    Re: Manufacturers Pad colors

I`m new around here and I just wanted to bump the thread and say thanks for all the work that went into this. I`ve got some Sonus Green, Orange and Blue pads in the garage from a couple of years ago and this is very helpful.
