Just like automotive paint which has undergone major changes in technology, automotive leather and vinyl surfaces have also improved considerably in the past decade. Nearly all automotive leather surfaces are treated with special chemicals that provide resistance to scratching and marring, increase their durability, and provide protection from weathering. The chemistry of vinyl surfaces has improved dramatically as well to give these surfaces leather look and leather feel. The vinyl surfaces are also treated with similar chemicals as those used for automotive leather to increase their durability and to provide protection from weathering.

These protective chemicals are lost over a period of a few months. Optimum Protectant Plus cleans these surfaces and replenishes the protective chemicals while adding UV protection to these substrates. Most leather or vinyl protectants in the marketplace leave an oily film behind on these surfaces which gives them a glossy look and an slick feel. Since these products are not absorbed into these surfaces, they last a few days and mainly act as a dust magnet.

Optimum Protectant Plus keeps leather supple and helps reduce cracking of vinyl and leather surfaces, as well as reducing scratching and marring. Optimum Protectant Plus penetrates and adheres to these surfaces; therefore, it does not make these surfaces oily or slick and provides lasting protection. Optimum Protectant Plus also works great on the outside trims and moldings. These are just some of the reasons why Optimum Protectant Plus is preferred by many detailing professionals

    Package Directions

Remove any loose dirt from surface.
Spray Optimum Protectant Plus directly on surface and wipe off with a Optimum microfiber towel or other polishing cloth.
You can also spray Optimum Protectant Plus on a microfiber towel and then apply to the surface.

    Review

For application I choose to apply the Protectant Plus to a microfiber towel and then apply it to the leather and vinyl surfaces for better control and to eliminate any over spray.
The product applies easily with good even coverage and just as advertised leaves no streaking. Protectant Plus dries/absorbs into the surface fast leaving behind a clean satin finish on textured vinyl and a slightly more glossy finish on leather seats. And the best attribute of Protectant Plus is it does not leave behind any residue that may feel greasy like some other vinyl and leather protectants. Leather surfaces are left feeling soft and pliable.

I normally stay away from using any protectants on dashboards due to the glare they can create from a high gloss and I just do not care for that fake glossy look. But with Protectant Plus the dashboard and other vinyl trim is left looking factory fresh with a satin finish. Just perfect in my opinion!

As far as a scent is concerned Protectant Plus has a very light pleasant non-chemical scent that dissipates quickly.

The pictures below are of my “test vehicle /daily driver” which is 12 years old and with Optimum’s Protectant Plus she looks factory fresh.

Whoa, 12 yr old interior that seriously looks new. That`s a great example of how maintaining a car will keep the resale value much higher. Great review!
