Gloss-Coat, so much more then an "entry level" coating

For the professional detailer Optimum Gloss-Coat is so much more than an entry level coating.

Designed for maximum Gloss while providing protection against environmental damages for 2 years, Gloss-Coat is very durable hybrid Si02 coating. Other well liked attributes of Gloss-Coat are its ease of application, lack of installation complications such as the need for multiple layers, curing lamps and excessive waiting times before releasing to the consumer.

Often shunned as a consumer coating, detailing professionals have good reason to look to Optimum’s Gloss-Coat to fill their customer’s coating needs.

For the customer on a budget Gloss-Coat fills that role with pleasure. Costing less than $20 per application, and taking less time than any wax to apply(15-20 mins is typical) the detailer can give their customers a coating experience without the pro coating price tag. Think of Gloss-Coat as a “gateway” coating, it gets your customers hooked on the advantages of a coating for a very small investment, and when it comes time for a new car, they will be receptive to a higher level of coating. With its hybrid chemistry Gloss-Coat does not need periodic topping up of the resin to maintain its protection, unlike most Si02 coatings.

For the customer on a short term lease Gloss-Coat fills that market need as well. Most short term leases are for commercial vehicles which do not benefit from the coverage of the typical pro coating warranty, Gloss-Coat will protect the vehicle for the term of the lease while keeping it cleaner, easier to maintain and reducing the risk of lease return fees due to paint damage.

For that customer who is not a good fit for a long term coating due to their requirement of having a pristine vehicle for shows, or just personal pleasure, Gloss-Coat answers that need as well. We all have those customers that have a panic attack when they get the slightest of marks on their toy. While Opti-Coat Pro is the best coating in terms of protection, for that consumer the fact that the warranty is voided if the coating is polished makes it less interesting for them. For that “special” customer Gloss-Coat shines. Polish the customers paint to perfection as you would before the application of Opti-Coat Pro, apply Gloss-Coat, knowing that if something should happen to mar the paint, you can polish and re-apply. That same consumer can be put on a yearly maintenance schedule where unlike other Si02 coatings that have a resin reapplied to revive it, Gloss-Coat due to its low cost and ease of use can simply be reapplied as the customer sees fit. If the consumer want’s an even deeper gloss you can add a second layer of Gloss-Coat after 1 hour, and follow that up with Opti-Seal one hour later. This will rival the gloss of any pro coating, while providing great protection, and profits for you. It is not recommended to use more than 3 layers, and after 2 the difference is very minimal.

For the consumer who enjoys maintaining their own vehicle Gloss-Coat can be topped with a wax or sealant if the consumer so desires, and as often as they want.

It is good to have around here Yvan! Welcome

    Now, a few questions.

    1. It would be good to establish an updated guide of application of Gloss Coat (New Formula 2015), out there as there are several different opinions, there are still doubts about whether a pattern X to the first panel, how many drops of GlossCoat for each panel, time before wipe off.

    2. It is said that the microfiber suede stretching further the product, increasing the yield quantity per car, vs the foam applicator.

    3. The curing time of Gloss Coat is 1 hour, once cured if the car is left out 24/7, subject to changes in climate (heat and rain), to protect the cured until the 7th day for first wash, one layer of Opti Seal is sufficient?

    4. How much has chemical resistance against APC, degreasers, ferrous cleaners, etc.

    Thanks Yvan

Greg, the confusion was caused by me and my English as a second language misinterpretation of a meeting at Optimum. Optimum does not make it, simply Dr. G was consulted during the development of it. Uber is 100% an Autogeek product, and one they should be understandably proud of.

Nice write up, thank you Yvan.

you seem to be a good guy to ask. How many CC of Gloss Coat does Optimum recommend for a 4 door sedan like a Ford Fusion. Coating wheel faces and paint. There is opinions out there from several cc`s to the whole syringe. Thanks

    Thank you

    1. I will endeavour to produce one in the next week or so.

    2. That`s a common perception, but is in fact false. The included applicator is actually very efficient in terms of transfer efficiency. Suede applicators are good as well, it really comes down to personal preference.

    3. The curing time before washing is 7 days, curing time before exposure to water is 8 hours. 1 hour after application, Optiseal can be applied. This accomplishes a few things. It protects the Gloss-coat while it`s curing from chemicals, it allows the car to be released to the customer immediately. It protects the coating against touchy-feely types.

    4. Chemical resistance of Gloss-coat isn`t that of Opti-Coat Pro, but it will resist all of Optimum`s cleaning chemicals due to Optimum`s strong synergy. Power Clean, FerreX, and MDR when used as directed, will not damage Gloss-coat.

Re using suede applicator. When I did my car, I took the included blue foam applicator, but snipped off the edges of the circle. This made the foam applicator into a rectangle, preserved the loop on the back to help hold it, and gave the applicator less volume to soak up product.

It depends on your prep and application method, but 4-6cc is average for that size. One thing to remember with Gloss-coat is that it bonds to and becomes one with the paint instead of sitting on the paint, so a "thick" coat is not needed.

    Yvan,
referred that application costs $ 20 per car, that few cc equivalent?

One layer of OS protects the curing of Gloss Coat in car outside 24/7 against the rain for many days?, if is dirty or bird dropping should be done or how to clean?

Very nice post. I just recently used the newest formula of gloss coat and I can honestly say it`s one of the easiest coatings to use. It also looks great.

My preference is the suede applicator when applying it.

The Opti-seal and Gloss-Coat will protect it against the bird dropping, Simply wash off with ONR.

Average usage per car is 4cc so a 20cc syringe can yield 5 cars.

I always enjoyed your informative posts on the Optimum forum, but that place is all but dead, so I rarely visit anymore.

That`s the first I`ve heard of putting opti seal on an hour after gloss coat. Interesting
