New to Detail city...George`s Mobile Mechanic and Detailing

    Hi All

I`m starting my own mobile mechanic and detailing business in New Bern NC. I`ve already bought a used truck in good condition from my mom, and a new, small enclosed cargo trailer. I plan on offering detail and oil change packages and such. I`m getting my truck and trailer wrapped so it stands out.

I`ve definitely found a wealth of information here, and any comments or advice is welcome!

    thanks
    george

Welcome George. Glad to have you here.

I hope you plan on showing us some pics of your rig. Some before, during and after pics would be cool.

Welcome 2 D.C. George. I beleive incorporating detailing w/minor repairs is an excellent idea. I have a few of my customers I do there brake pad replacement.(German made cars eat up pads fast)Very easy money and I can do them for almost half of what tha dealer charges. So everyone wins.

Here is a pic of my truck and trailer before any graphics or outfitting it with tools of the trade. It will be a couple weeks before its done:

Here is the garage. It is a HUGE pita. Its was packed with all my moms junk. My goal is to completely gut it, and make it look very professional:

And here is my neon light. I hope to design my logo similar to it:

I would be happy to help you with posting pics and give advice on set-up. I`ve always kept my set-ups simple and efficient. I have no idea how to integrate it with a mobile mechanics rig though.

Go to your control panel and look for Pictures and Albums on the left hand side. Click on that and then click add album. Follow the instructions. You can upload pictures right from your computer.

That creates an photo album in your profile. You can then grab the code that`s below each picture to put in a thread you create preferably in the "Mobile Detailer`s Rigs" section of the forum. Sounds complicated but it`s easy once you try it.

Here`s some quick tips for setting up trailer.

    - Make sure water tank or main weight is balanced over the axle so you have just enough tongue weight.

    - Make your signage eye catching but also easy to read from a distance.

Those are two biggies. I`m sure you`re already planning to lay everything out for maximum efficiency.

There are some good detail rigs showcased on here. Check them out and feel free to ask these guys any specifics. They are very helpful.

I`d like to get a tank to put in the truck bed, and reserve the trailer for detailing supplies and tools. I won`t need much for the mechanic stuff. I`m just going to be doing simple stuff such as oil changes. I can easily put that stuff in the truck bed.

Where should I look to get a tank that`ll fit my truck bed with the tonneau cover closed?

also, I was planning on using all Griot`s garage products, but this site is opening my mind. Griot`s prices are expensive, but I`m getting a 20% off discount of everthing. I`m assuming the consensus here is to use all poorboy`s products?

Welcome George, I use Poorboy`s World products and have been impressed with every one of them. Furthermore, If I ever have questions or concerns about his products or simply want to ask what is the best way to use them, Poorboy is on the chat room every night. "Steve" is a very nice man and is very helpful when I have questions about anything. It is comforting to use a product whose manufacturer is available for live chats daily. He is also known for standing behind his products. Good luck on your start up.TD

I think you`ll find that you can get some very good products at lower prices in any of Detail City sponsors. I suggest you try out pints of different products to see how you like them. You can them grab them in the gallon sizes that you will need.
