Old dog willing to learn new tricks

Hello from sunny California. My name is Dennis, I drive a 2004 Black RX330 Lexus. A month ago I went shopping for a new car, prices, and lack of inventory changed my mind. Instead, I will be using my time, money, and talent to bring the "Black Beauty" back to her showroom glory. (with the help of this forum)For the most part, the outer paint is in good shape, with some notable chips on the hood, a fair amount of minor scratches, and three of four deep scratches. I have waxed a car or two in my lifetime (starting with a 1940 Red Four Pickup truck) yes: I am that old. I got my license in that truck. I have never restored a headlight (in my day we replace them) Touch-up meant buying a can of Bondo and a spry can. OH; the engine wore out before the paint. So be kind if I use the wrong terminology. I still turn my head when I backup,

    Bienvenidos !!!!

What a nice Lexus you have ! They have really nice paint..

I have 2 Black Beauties in my garage today, and have always enjoyed paint correcting them, and hundreds of other Black Beauties..

I still look backwards before backing up too.. It`s a reflex...
Yes, all 3 of my vehicles have back up cameras, and they are really nice..

    But I still look back.....

Thanks for the warm welcome you are now my "GOTO" guy when things don`t go the way they Should. I have a question, I have removed all of the minor scratches from my left side, there are five small chips yet to be repaired (I have never applied paint before) Can I compound the haze first and then repair the chips later? I am using Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound.
PS I will get around to posting a picture of the Black Beauty soon.

    Happy Easter, dennisofnewport !

Yes, you can always paint correct and should do it first, before working with paint chips...
You want the paint all around that area in the best condition you are looking to obtain, before you do anything else...paint chip correction, applying a clear bra, etc...
If you are getting the results you want with the Meguiars Ultimate Compound, then keep using it..
