    New from Central CA

    Hi,

New member, total greenhorn. My only goal is to keep my family cars looking good. Background is this. First car was a Saturn--had a succession of cars after that. Always kept my cars looking nice--but now I`m horrified to look back--sure I put a lot of swirls in the paint since I used one bucket and no grit guard. Sometime ago got a then-new Subaru Outback which now has over 130,000 miles and counting.

Acquired a family and after that hand washing became too time-consuming, so used the automatic car wash. Realized how much damage the car wash was doing (license plate frame torn off, some dull front and back panels). Decided I had to do something--so dug out some of my old car cleaning stuff, got some new stuff, and started washing the cars by hand again. Would pay someone else to do it, but that`s actually more of a hassle than doing it myself, not to mention expensive.

No snow where I live, but sometimes we take snow trips. Summers are hot and dry; winters are rainy/foggy. As the name suggests, I`m a hiker, so plenty of dusty roads, bugs, and possibilities for tree sap and other such things. Family means sometimes eating/drinking in the car, particularly now with COVID restrictions on restaurants. Some of my main detailing worries are how to clean upholstery and how to clean bugs. Also wondering if detail stuff ever expires since some of the stuff I have has been sitting in a garage for several years.
