Should I use a gel coat sealant after compounding and polishing a boat, or will Megs #21 be ok?

I am fairly new to boat detailing, but my process (t`ill now) is to use an automotive acrylic sealer followed by one or two coats of carnauba (Meguires 21)
My reasoning is that the sealer will take more of a pounding on a car on the road than it will on a boat on the water so it should hold up. Time will tell tho`.
My plan is to wax every 6 - 8 weeks and in the fall when I lay up for the winter.
A gel coat sealant will work best for you.

A dedicated wax made specifically for gel coats will work better than sealants/waxes that are made for automotive paint.
Collinite makes a good wax for gel coats as does Meguiar`s with their Flagship Premium marine wax.
just realized this is an Old.... thread.:redface1:

I`m hauling the boat tomorrow to do the lower parts. You are right on time. The local harbor chandler carries Collinite.
Thanks.
