Hey everyone I`m new to Autopia and I keep seeing all these threads talking about how rotaries leave a much better finish than a pc or udm. I realize that they can be extremely dangerous for your paint if you don`t get some practice with them so I was wondering if there is anyone in the chicagoland area who knows how to use one well and is willing to take some time to show me. I know it sounds weird but I could show up while you do a detail or something and I can watch and learn. I think the time spent learning how to use a rotary buffer would be well worth it. I live in Hanover Park, one of the northwest suburbs.

Good idea and I hope you get someone to respond. I`d be more than happy to help but I`m in Tampa.

Another good idea is to see if you can pick up a salvaged panel from a body shop to practice on at your leisure.

I live in Buffalo Grove and have a Makita 9227. I`m all about making friends and would gladly have you over. Problem is, I can`t say I`m a pro with the machine yet. I never really ever bust it out, the PC corrects almost everything I do. But, I have used it and havn`t burned any paint :chuckle.

I`m in the Fox Valley of WI, but I make regular trips down to Rockford, IL in the summertime to hang out with a bunch of car buds. If you`d be interested I could let you know the next time I`m there for a detail day and you are more than welcome to hang out and learn a few things.

jt, I`ll be doing a few details in the upcoming month... I`m located on the North side of Chicago, near Foster/Milwaukee intersection. I also prefer the PC but on some softer paints, rotary always seems to finish better... anyway, I`m willing to spend a bit showing you some proper techniques (proper tech= what works for me haha)... if you can bring by a junk panel I have another rotary you can practice on as well... just let me know and maybe we can arrange for you to come by during a detail
