My 08 BMW took a hit on the bumper cover.

No damage, other than paint but I would like to fix it. Any reccomendations for a good shop in the DC area?

There is suppose to be this guy who is one of the best painters. I`ll call Thomas and get a hold of him and then I can text you the #. Also, PM your email Mike. I made a thread for your car but on another website since I couldn`t post it for some reason on Autopia.

Check out D&V Auto Body in Chantilly/Sterling area. Ask for Kevin, and tell him Brad sent you. They do excellent work, and Kevin will take care of you.

D&V Auto Body is a very high end place and expensive place. I spoke with Ron and he seemed to know his stuff. Didnt get to see any finished work however.

I have. They worked on a customer of mine`s BMW 650. The work is nearly flawless.

Should be around $600+. Generally, the more you pay, the better your odds.

I have seen alot of work from BMW of Fairfax and I can vouch for them. They do very good work but like any body shop you get what you pay for. If you pay for the proper prep work you will get a beautiful end product. If you cheap out you will see the difference. I`ve seen them paint areas that still had chips etc and came to realize that some insurance companies don`t want to pay for the extra prep work. Are you going through your insurance or out of pocket? If insurance make sure you check over the estimate really well and talk to the painter or estimator and make sure they have everything quoted the way you want. Don`t let the insurance company screw you if you go that route. Good Luck

FYI - It`s not a matter of getting screwed by your insurance company because they don`t owe to fix rock chips on a bumper(i.e. extra prep work), just the related repair. Unless the shop feels generous or you pay extra, don`t expect an insurance company to pay for any unrelated damage.

I went there based on this thread. My parents need some work done on their Lexus. The guy doing the estimate didn`t give me a good vibe, like he didn`t really care about having me as a customer.

Then when I asked if I could see some repairs that were complete or nearly complete all he could point me to was one car. The bumper re-spray looked nice, flat and decent color match, however the fender was only painted 1/4 over the exposed edge and you could see grey primer through the hood gap. The gap was also wider than the other side. Terrible attention to detail on such a simple repair. That alone is going to have me looking elsewhere.

    I`m open to more recommendations.

Who did you deal with there? If you have problems contact Kevin, he is a friend of mine, and would probably like to hear your concerns. Honestly, from what I have seen of the many body shops in this area, D&V is one of the better shops.

    Brad,

I`ll have to check the estimate, he didn`t introduce himself (asking which car was mine doesn`t count) nor give me a business card. The shop looks really nice, but the experience and the only one car that I saw were not good. How much of their work have you seen, was the 650 the only example?

I`m not looking for perfection, but I am looking for something that is going to make me or an appraiser (when it comes time to sell) to have to work a bit to tell what was painted. I`ve heard good stuff about Matchless, Ashburn Collision and a ton off good stuff about Wagonwerks. However I hear that insurance and Wagonwerks don`t play along well.

Wagonwerks - guess who is painting the small $$$ jobs. Newbies that need to prove they are good. I`ve seen some of their work and would stay away from them. Also way too much $$$$.

I have complete confidence in D&V. A few other of my customer`s have had work done at D&V, and it all looked very good. I can contact Kevin for you, if you would like. Send me a PM.

I would have to agree. They are living off of a reputation that is probably 20 years old, but no longer applies.
