Does anyone else here have a problem with customers calling or texting at all hours of the day? I was brought up not to bother folks after 9PM. I know that I am old, but has this practice gone by the wayside?

That is pretty inconsiderate. Can your phone be set to block during a time frame of your choosing? I`ve done so from 9P to 7A making exceptions for a few folks in case they really do need to get in touch.
The silent feature was created for these reasons. That said I don`t mind the calls within reason..After all detailing is a service level business, if you value the business then answer the phone.

I think after 7 is pushing it, personally. When I am done working (Between 4 and 6), I can budget only a few more hours to for anything that doesn`t have to do with my son. After 7, I`m his.
I agree, and don`t call anyone past 9pm w/o a good reason. If you have an iPhone you can enable "Do Not Disturb" and send callers directly into voicemail. From the setting menu you have the option of:
- Turning DND on/off automatically at pre-determined time
- Allow calls from your list of Favorites (or no one at all),
- Allow any call to come through if the person tries twice within 3 minutes of the first call.
Hope that helps!
Personally I don`t mind late night texts. If I post something for sale on Craigslist or a client needs to contact me, I don`t mind a text message at any time. Late night phone calls bother me big time. If I hear my phone ringing late at night, the first thing that crosses my mind is an emergency. I can see that being an issue.
As far as work calls goes it depends upon the job requirements. I`ve been in three distinctly different situations. As a timecard employee I made myself available from 6 am to 7 pm (I didn`t work shifts, just days). As a salaried employee I was required to be available 24/7. This was at times tough, as there were times when a ranking exec had an epiphany at 3 am and wanted to just run it by you. As a business owner I tried to be very available as that`s what a growing business needs. That said, I used a bit of discretion and did screen calls. That`s what voice mail or text are for, you read or listen and then determine whether the issue needs to be acted on now or can wait until later.
Personal calls are different. You may call me as long as I`m awake and chances are I`ll answer. If you call me and I`m sleeping I`ll screen the call and maybe I`ll answer. Good friends, senior parents and family always get my attention.

depends on the type of call...for someone that will read the stuff I send them and then text me if it`s OK to call, I`m good. Was on the phone at 1 am for a newbie last night.
Now for the guy that won`t read and just want`s me to "tell him how to do it", no time is right, I`ve politely hung up on a few like that...

You and I feel the same and have walked in similar shoes at various times. That said while I worked at a company that was 24/7/365 we HAD to be on call.
Where I do feel there should be some common sense in this I`ve realized it`s not always going to happen.. My take on late night biz related calls is, if I don`t take the call the next person they call that will answer gets the business.

Not sure my phone has that feature
It is very inconsiderate. If someone calls me after 10:30 p.m. I return their call @ 5:00 a.m.
Silent feature is not an option for me
I value my business, but not to the point where I am married to it 24/7. If someone can`t wait until a respectable hour to contact me I don`t want/need their business
How about a picture of junior sometime. Haven`t seen the lil fella in 4-5 years now
Appreciate the info
If someone calls me past 10:30 they better be dying
Texts, Phone Calls, at inappropriate times all rub me wrong. I had a local kid I met on the other forum send me 5 FREAKIN TEXT MESSAGES @ 3:30 a.m.. last month. I was going to meet up with him up and drop knowledge FREE of CHARGE, but he blew it by being an idiot
Common Sense is in short supply too
I don`t care if I worked for Obama. Save that stuff until I am awake is what I would tell him
I`ve grown very fond of texting, but if I`m trying to give someone a tutorial, we`re going to need to talk not text
My competition can have that business. I`m fortunately not that desperate for work
Oh, yeah, you`re right I don`t answer for him. He gets on a bender now and then and calls at 2 in the morning. I just let it ring and roll over. Come to think of it now maybe I should be talking to him at 2 am before he gets up in the morning and starts signing stuff.
