Most all members here are weekend enthusiast and some pro-shop owners.

Your advice about selling is just to talk to everyone that you can every day. Granted that if you threw enough (stuff) on the wall some will stick.

Sounds like the Am-Way approach to me.

I do know that if you took the time to read some of the threads here, you would find that most are not going to get out there and beat the pavement as you are asking them to, why?

Its a weekend thing for them, they are working full time jobs, coupled with the fact that they are not looking to fill up there weekends detailing.

I can appreciate your drive, its your approach on this site that is going to get you know where in a big hurry.

Give us some sales techniques that you have, that would be useful

Beemerboy ok now we are getting somewhere.I understand now!!! One thing i have done that worked for me was i hooked up with a upscale golf course not to do work on site but to work with the charity tournaments they have at the course. That is my in then we have progressed from there. But i think very important to keep your name in front of them on a weekly basis even if it just a question or a hi.Or play at the course if you play golf then while in the clubhouse say hi.

I know that I have relied on word of mouth to build my business over the years, and as long as you`re doing quality work it can provide a substantial customer base.

Proper marketing techniques can definately take your business much further and build it much faster, but if the quality is not there then it won`t last.

Its called networking and that is one avenue, there are tons of places that people go to that have nice cars and money to spend on them.

I for one like the Chamber of Commerce, but any place where people gather is good for networking.

I agree if no quality find another profession!!!!. Word of mouth is great but i think some folks forget to ask for referrals when they finish the job. I have put three lines on back of my business cards with name number and email if they give me 3 people i can call within 2 days i send them a microfiber towel,3 small bottles of touch up product with my name on the bag of course and a business card inside.

I agree with you as well, it sounds like you have some very good marketing concepts, and I`m sure it will help motivate some of the professionals here. People are drawn to enthusiasm and confidence as long as it doesn`t come off as pushy. If you exhibit those, the business will definitely come.

Re: late to bed early to rise work like hell and advertise advertise advertise!!!!!!

Here is my 2 cents.......If anyone cares

    I am a mobile detailer.
Marketing- I put business cards out at no more than 5 locations. Word of mouth is the biggest for of advertising I have, along with my trailer. As a matter of fact, I picked up a new job this evening when I went to Wal_mart to get my son a haircut. He seen my trailer and came up to me. A little smooth talking and it was in the bag.

Not sure if I am going to do more advertising this year or not. Maybe an ad in the phone book?

Re: late to bed early to rise work like hell and advertise advertise advertise!!!!!!

Ok so i havent posted in a while but I think this is a good point to jump in.
I am in the process of starting up a detailing business. I say in the procces as it is always evolving and growing. I dont have many clients as still need to work a seconed job now that I have bills however I have found a few things.

Word of mouth is the greatest thing. I cant stress this enough. You can put out flyers and ads and try the radio and some may work others wont. If you have a reputation of being the best then the business will follow.

When i first started it was with family vehicals. My dad (who is a vp not trying to brag but this is important to the story) has many freinds and clients who have money, as well as he likes a new car. So he takes some in his car or gets a comment and he can say ohh my son just detailed it. The next question "can he do mine?" my dad gives them a card and they call me

they then tell people as most of them are also high ranking people in the oil industsy. This procces contiunues until you are filled with alot of nice cars.

    Another word of mouth story...

My dads best freind is olse an officer, he also stores by dads car in the winter. I detailed his car as a thank you. he then hired me to do his 5 other cars, as well as has passed out about 50 of my cards. he will not do it if my work is crap as his name is on the line..

Moral to all these stories, do good work, give those who like it 5 cards and it will fall in place. It may take a while but no matter what business you are in that is true.

I cannot stress enough. WORD OF MOUTH

Re: late to bed early to rise work like hell and advertise advertise advertise!!!!!!

For me, the sales end is where I shine the best, I have no difficulty selling the jobs -- Been doing this for 20+ years and never did!! When I managed established operations, many of the detailers despised me for my ability to keep them buried in work. I would love to be out there shmoozin` clients and rubbin` elbows at networking functions with a shop full of eager workers -- It`s what I do best!! However, unless I can back-up the sales with the ability to perform the jobs, it`s meaningless. Someone brought it up that without the initial capital outlay to invest (in my case labor), I am limited to my having to do the work myself and/or supervise it`s completion.

Tell me though, ShineFX, are you in the trenches doing the detailing, or are you just a salesperson relying upon a crew -- `cause if it`s the latter I can fully understand how you can spend your days playing golf.
A happy customer tells a friend ... An unhappy one tells many friends !!!

Gim-me a car with finns... :naughty and I`ll shows ya what detailin`s all about... :jump

If you want more business one key is working on your grammar, spelling, and punctuation. It`s hard to take anyone seriously when their writing is of a 7th grade level.

Were I agree with you on this, the last time that I communicated with a prospect about detailing it was with my mouth, not written.

Just make take on the subject
