    Auto Factory Insight

So this is an article about GM adding jobs, but look at the picture. There a GM (presumably) worker using an air sander on...a body-in-white? A chassis that just came out of E-coat? What? I mean, he`s in the middle of the door panel, so I presume he`s not knocking down a weld.

He took a paint depth reading of 7 mils and wanted to knock it down to a more reasonable 5 mils.

Oh, you think that`s the top coat and he`s taking out a blemish? It looked like E-coat or primer to me, I suppose it could simply be he`s knocking down a primer defect.

    Re: Auto Factory Insight

Judging by his PPE alone (the cut resistant sleeves that he isn`t even wearing correctly) those bodies are still in BIW. If this was in paint he would probably be wearing some type of coverall jumpsuit. At least that is what is required at the factory where I work at.

He is probably using the air sander to take out a light scratch/gouge in the metal itself, if i had to guess.
