    Looking for wool pad recommendations

    Hi All

I mostly use MF pads for heavier defect jobs but I have read/ heard that wool has more cut and runs cooler so I was thinking it may be better to use when I have cars with heavier defects and harder clears since I usually do multiple steps anyway.

Looking for some feedback/ recommendations on wool pads to use mostly with a DA. I have been doing some research and found the following but do not have experience/ cant find much feedback or reviews on them.

    1. Rupes Coarse Wool Pad - Seem to have limited feedback/ reviews which are positive but are expensive at $17.99 a piece
    2. CarPro Cool Wool Pads - Similar limited feedback to the Rupes but cheaper at $14.99 a piece - https://www.carpro-us.com/polishing-...-interlayer-6/
    3. CarPro Cool Pads Hybrid(Wool/MF Pads) - These are a hybrid wool/ MF pad and look interesting but again no reviews/ experiences but seem reasonably priced at $11.99 - https://www.carpro-us.com/polish-pad...ol-pad-hybrid/
    4. Kamikaze Wool Buff Pads - I saw Jim White of White Detail use these with good results in some of his vlogs but can not seem to find anywhere that sells them in the US. Esoteric which is the distributor for Kamikaze in the US does not seem to carry them either.

Anyway what are your thoughts on the above or any other wool pads or what are your thoughts on cutting with wool in general?
I really like the idea of more cut with less heat. I do understand that they may not finish as well as MF but generally I would only use these for really hammered paint/ hard paint that would require additional refining steps!

    Thanks for any help/ feedback.

I would bump up to a rotary with a traditional wool setup. I use the Buff and Shine 50/50 Acrylic wool pads most of the time, but sometimes even need the 100% Twisted wool pads.

Agreed with what Ray said. If its that bad then the good Flex PE14 comes out to play with a 6.5in Lake Country wool pad

Re: Looking for wool pad recommendations

I have found excellent results on everything from Honda Civic Black, BMW Jet Black, Lexus Jet Black, Porsche Cayenne Blue Lapis, Chevrolet White, Piper Cub Airplane White, and many, many, more I cannot remember at this moment, with Lake Country Purple Foam Wool , my Makita Rotary, and Meguiars 105, 101, and 205 and any of the Menzerna products..

You need to know that all wool or wool blends will lose some of it to start but once a little more damp will settle down and cut nicely until they are too full of product and you have to change it out..
The wear down and flatten out fast, so you need to have lots of them and they can be cleaned perhaps once or twice, before they are worn down too much and are no longer going to help..

I prefer to use the 5.5" purple foam wool and smaller for all my work except for big long flat things like those dang 10 passenger vans or Airplanes...
To me, bigger wool means you really have to be more careful that the edge does not rub something that has an edge and then you just damaged it...

I have never considered using any type of wool on a random orbital, so sorry, I cannot help you with that part...

The new uro-fiber buffing pads seems intresting. I use domestic made twisted wool acrylic pads.

I came here to say this! So long story short I snapped the power cord on my Makita rotary....I ordered a replacement cord on Amazon but I don`t have a working rotary at the moment. This Jaguar came in and it has ROCK HARD paint (repaint). I tried everything and it just wasn`t working. Of course when my rotary breaks is when I really need it.

So I look in my pad cabinet and notice the Urowool pads I ordered awhile ago. I tried it on my HF DA with a 6 inch backing plate and it knocked it out of the park with FC-717.

Now I`m onto the polishing step

I still wish I had a Makita working with a wool pad, but I was impressed with the Urowool.

Good stuff with the Uro wool option

Another option for the DA is the Lake Country THIN purple foamed wool. I`m supposed to be trying them out this weekend, but things keep popping up.

Rupes is doing a webinar on the subject of wool versus microfiber this month. Google it and you can get the information. I’m sure it’s sales driven but probably good information.

Thanks All. Appreciate all the feedback.

Ray the Urofiber wool pads look good and I like the price point! Also damn love that Jag!

I was planning on picking up the new rupes lhr19 rotary later when it is released.

I see these are now available at the US Distributor. I used one briefly a few weeks ago (I ordered from UK) and was suitably impressed although my experience with wool is very, very limited. I used it with the Banzai Cutting Compound, 4 passes with Rupes 15mk2 and it left a very nice finish while removing some pretty decent defects on the hood of a fleet truck.

Thanks for the review on these Budget!
I`ll probably grab a few to try out along with the banzai cut if they have it!

They do have the Banzai cut as well...few new Kami products avaliable now, including Intenso glass coating.

Unfortunately the Intenso only in 100ml bottles which makes it a bit pricey unless you have 25-30 windshields to coat. I tried a previous version of Intenso last year (from UK) and it was great in wet but left streaks from bugs/debris hits in dry. They specifically mention how wonderful it is in dry now so I`ll have to give it a try cuz I`m an addict and that`s just what we do. *sigh*
