Strip ISP/Wax before one step polish?

    Newbie question of the day...

To get the best result do you recommend stripping a perfectly good wax/ISP on paint before doing any kind of one-step polish?

I`m wondering because I would like to play with my new toy - new Rupes 4" polisher with Sonax Perfect finish with a yellow Rupes pad or Rupes UHS with a UHS pad on my new car.

I realize that polishing will remove any wax/ISP on the paint, however I would prefer to not wash the whole car with soap that will strip the wax/ISP - then commit to a full polishing (then possibly sealing) then waxing of the car.

    thanks

Easier way to do this is just to do a quick Decon wash on the area you want to quick polish.

Basically, do a rinseless or waterless wipe to get dirt off, then clay the area. Can do some iron Decon spray if you want. Idea is to make sure you get any contaminates off so they don’t affect your polishing work.

Then you can polish on that area and re-seal/wax or whatever, without having to commit to doing the whole car (time constraints, whatever). This is how I’m slowly working around my wife’s car panel by panel.

Stripping the wax is not necessary as the polishing will do that. You want to make sure however that the surface has no bonded contamination that you will grind into the paint and contaminate the pad.

Thats great. If that`s the case I`ll go ahead and ...

    Rinse
    Wash (regular non-stripper soap)
Spray some Iron X on lower areas I want to polish
    Rinse
    Dry
Clay areas I wish to polish
    Polish
Seal and/or Wax area I polished

    Make sense?

    thanks

I agree with Mike, wash/clay/polish - the polish will remove any LSP/wax there is.

Sounds perfect. IMHO, stripper soaps are (generally) too harsh for frequent use, so just use a quality CAR WASH soap to clean your beast.

IME it depends on the LSP in question. USUALLY I just cut right through it with zero issues, but on a few occasions where I must`ve had a lot of lauyers built up the cut-off LSP residue was a bit much and loaded up the polishing pad. Not a huge issue, but irritating enough that I stopped and stripped it off the rest of the area.
