    HD polisher & smaller pads

I think the answer is obvious and clear, but before I go ahead and pull the trigger, let me confirm here:
Got the 1st gen HD polisher (aka HF DA). Uses 5.5 pads.
I want to buy a 3in bakcing plate and couple pads so I can better do smaller areas where 5.5 pads aren`t able to go.

Is the process as simple as buying the 3in pads/plate (any recommendations of which ones?), unscrewing the 5.5 plate and installing the new 3in one? and ready to go?

thanks for the newb Q&A here.

    cheers

Just verify the thread diameter and find a backing plate with holes for better pad cooling

Yes it is that simple. I use the LC BP and LLC and bs pads with great results. Just be sure to adjust your speeds for the smaller pads.

Yes it`s that simple. This is the backing plate I use. 3 Inch Dual Action Flexible Backing Plate

I use Buff & Shine pads, they are durable, quality pads.

speeds I use for 5.5in pads is 5or6, so probably 3/4 with 3in pads?

IIRC, the HF polisher has speeds similar to the GG6 I`m very used to. 3 to 4 will work well, but you can crank it up to 5 if need be to keep the pad rotating with pressure when compounding. Speed 6 is usually not needed.
