Paint marring on new car

Just took possession of a 2016 Oryx White VW Golf R a little over a week ago. Really happy with the car, its a little stealth rocket with AWD to get through the winters here. Anyway, I told the dealer not to touch the car after removing the plastic, no wash, no bumpers drilled. They obliged, as the car was a bit dirty when I signed the papers. Since I declined the detailing, the salesperson told me they couldn`t guarantee that the car` finish was defect free, as they didn`t have an opportunity to inspect it by washing/detailing it. I was fine with that. The as I was getting ready to drive off, the sales manager closely inspected at a spot on the corner of the roof above the rear driver`s side door, but he didn`t say anything about it. When I had a chance to clean it and give it the once over I noticed an eraser haead-ish sized circular mark where the paint was marred in the location the sales manager was inspecting the car. I found additional, less serious marks down the door in a perfect line from the mark on the top of the car, as if some packing strap or something rubbed the paint in several spots. My only concern is knowing if the significant marring on the top went through the clear coat or not. I`m pretty sure the spots on the door are superficial enough to be easily fixed by someone that knows what they are doing. Pics follow, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on learning how to machine polish in the next few months using my wife`s car as the guinea pig (its old). I`m hoping this can be easily correctable. Thanks much for your help.

Did you send these pics to the Sales manager at the Dealership ?

I would, just so they know (and you said he was already looking at that spot) that you saw that one and a few others in a line down the driver side..

Are they anymore defects about the same place on the passenger side of the car ?

Probably happened during shipping, try a little polishing by hand and see if it helps

To me almost looks like something dripped on car.

I would get some scratchx from auto zone and start by gently working a cloth on the spot. Probably come right out.

HeavyB- Hope you`re able to correct that.

I don`t mean to blame the victim here, but I`m a little surprised that you didn`t do an inspection when you picked it up, dirty or not. You can still see a lot of stuff on a diry car if you use a bright flashlight in a somewhat dark room (or at least that`s how I did it).

It`ll be interesting to see if the manager is stand-up about the area he`d obviously noticed. I would`ve been all over him about that..."whatcha lookin` at there?!? Whoa, I`m not taking that!"

Congrats on your rocket! They are very hard to find. I am sure in your excitement you were ready to drive.
I agree with the others, drive by the dealership and see the sales manager, see what you two can work out. Hey it`s brand new under full warranty.
You will enjoy the drive anyways....

Thanks very much for the input. I really appreciate it. Regarding my hasty inspection prior to driving off, guilty as charged. The extenuating circumstances are as follows.

1. I have very little time or patience to deal with car dealerships.
2. From the horror stories I hear about the dealership detailers, I figured they might only make things worse if I asked them to fix anything. I`d rather get it fixed from someone I trust.
3. Golf Rs equipped exactly as you want them are very difficult to find. I didn`t want to risk going back on a multi-month/half-year wait list. This one just happened to become available the day before because the original buyer backed-out because they didn`t like the color once they saw it in person. It wouldn`t have lasted the weekend if I had hesitated.
4. Dealer isn`t local adding to the complexity of having them deal with trying to fix the problem (and see point 2.)

The good news is I took Mike L`s and JBM`s advice and did a little hand polishing with some ScratchX 2.0 after cleaning and clay-barring the area. A few rounds with the ScratchX was all it took to remove the marks! Yea! Thank you so much for the advice. I can sleep a little easier now and move on to worrying about the more important things, like the first round of mods/go fast parts to install.
