That`s a pretty nice looking polisher for occasional use. You should get a flexible velcro backing plate to attach foam pads to. I have an 11 amp one that`s similar and it works great.

Cool! Good to hear you have a similar one and it works well.

About the backing plate, does the "hook and loop backing pad" that comes with it not work?

    Thanks.

It`s not a very good BP that comes with it. For the price those are hard to beat for occasional use. What it lacks is an accurate electronic speed control, the power of a more expensive rotary, and variable speed trigger control. Those are all issues that are easy to work around and as long as you realize that you`ll be fine. I picked one up last year on sale for $19.99 locally, I just couldn`t pass it up at that price to have as a back-up if needed, so if you have a HF store near by you might want to check the in-store price.

Thanks for the reply! $19.97 is the reason I was looking at it too. That and the fact I`ve spent over three hours on the swirls on this door and I`m getting nowhere

Are the electronic speed control and the variable trigger speed control important?

I think I`m somewhat okay with the lesser power since it will be less easy to cause damage, but it will still correct swirls and medium scratches?

I`d suggest getting a 5 inch backing plate so you can use smaller 6 1/2 inch pads since they are easier to work with.
