makita 9227c, porter cable 7428, or hitachi sp18va

well ill be purchasing a rotary soon and was wondering out of these three, which do you find the easiest and best? the makita and pc are about $200 while the hitachi is $170. i have read a lot of people use the makita so im kind of leaning towards that but i havent read much about the pc 7428. i own the pc7424 and really like it but it just takes so long and i believe i have done enough research on how to use a rotary that i am ready for one

From my experience they`re all reliable and have what it takes to get the job done. The prices are pretty much the same. Take a look at the weight and also know that the Hitachi comes with a 5 year warranty while the others are only a year. I ordered my Hitachi off of ebay and the price was $134 shipped and insured. It wont be here until Tuesday though. Atticdog has his already though and I`m pretty sure he`ll chime in.

i got my hitachi on friday and it looks like a nice machine

I emailed tech support at autogeek about the differences between the makita and hitachi, since they sell both and this was their reply

Hi Jason,

The Hitachi and Makita polishers are very similar. However, the Hitachi does have a slightly more powerful motor, and weighs less than the Makita.

Not sure if you can go wrong with a brand name. I have both the Makita and the PC and they are very simular.

I agree with this BUT the 2 pounds of difference is a factor to consider. It`s not really a big deal for the top panels but it is for the side panels.

For years I have used my B&D rotary (Dewalt 849 equivalent) to compound and in some cases light polishing. At 8.x pounds I`m just wanting something lighter for less fatigue. While I don`t feel that any one of these machines is truly any better in quality than the other the weights of the Makita and Hitachi stand out as they`re 2.x pounds lighter than the others. The Fein and Metabo are also lighter polishers but IMO the price doesn`t work once the warranty gets factored in. My choice to pick up the Hitachi was because of the weight, price($134 shipped) and the 5 year warranty.

I dont think my HF CE rotary will fail on me, but i am planning to get one of the two in the near future.

Hitachi is lighter, more powerfull, has a longer warrenty and it just happens to be cheaper from where we ordered it from

It is the same price at autogeek as the makita
