This is the backing plate that came with my new Hitatchi polisher that is exactly like the Makita 9227. To me it looks just like the Megs rotory backing plate. Do you think I need to get a different plate or can I just use this one?

As long as it is the appropriate diameter for whatever pads you choose to use, it should be fine.

Thanks, it is 6.5 inches in diameter so I guess that 7.5 inch pads would work just fine.

i think it is the best bang for the buck. Very light with good balance. Very powerful, and the speed controll seems to be spot on. I have only used it once. but am very impressed so far.
