Hi all, I`ve just got my brand new Makita 9227c yesterday. Since I`ll be using only 6.5" MG pads, hence I also bought a W-64 backing plate. However, as I fit in the W-64, I couldn`t turn all the way in as it`s suitable for 5/8" (15.88mm)thread size. My Makita comes with a 16mm thread size (Asian version). I would like to confirm whether is it safe to be used? Thanks!

I`ve been through this same problem with my Makita.

I done loads of looking around on the net and soon realised that the USA 5/8" thread was different to the thread on my UK Makita which was a M14x2 thread.

I don`t know if the UK and Asian versions are the same but here`s the backing pad I ended up getting... it fits a treat and is perfect for the 6.5" Megs/LC pads

Pugoman, the Makita which I got here comes with M16 thread. I just got my very first rotary polishing hands-on. The result is :up and that`s something my DeWALT DW443 ROB can hardly achieve. I started with 600rpm, and later with 900rpm. I`ll increase to 1200rpm once I got more confidence. During the first round, I had some splatters, but I never get any splatters in the following rounds. So happy till can`t sleep tonight!
