Or all pads should come with or people should use a 5" backing plate.

I agree with both of you. I think the larger backing plate is a better idea since it gives the pad more stability on the edges, but the backing should indeed go all the way to the edge. If cost is a factor, how much more could it possibly cost? I`d be willing to pay .50 more per pad which should be MORE than sufficient.

All I know is my updated LC DA pads, LC 4" Spot buff pads, and Sonus DAS pads all have velcro to the edge and are very durable, so there are good ones out there.

These reasons exactly why I don`t use CMA`s pads anymore. I`ve had more problems w/ them than any other pad. If they improve their pads I will gladly give them another shot.

Talked to CMA via email and they said that they would replace the pads, so I boxed them up and sending them out. I think I will invest in a 5" backing before I use them again, though.

When I ordered the pads their site said

FBP-6DA - Use this 6 inch Flexible, Urethane Backing Plate with discs and pads measuring 6 to 7.5 inches* in diameter. This plate works perfectly with our standard, 6 inch, Hi-gloss, Constant Pressure Pads

so thats what I got, didnt know the velcro backing was only 5.5 inches on a 6" pad.

So, they are replacing them, and maybe the ones I get will have velcro to the edges, and I wont have to get another backing plate.

They were quick to respond to my emails, and are fixing the problem. You got to like vendors that stand behind their product, and make it right after the sale.
