Just got a 7424 and it came with a 6 inch velcro backing plate. Do I need to get a 5 inch backing plate to use with LC 6.5 inch pads? Anyone had problems prematurely wearing out pads using a 6 inch backing plate with 6.5 inch pads?

    thanks

same here. I have a 6 in. megs backing plate with 6 1/2 in. megs pads and have no problems. Except its kind of a pita to get the pads centered with one hand when your in a hurry. You should be fine.:xyxthumbs

You can use a 6 inch plate with a 6.5 inch pad. I would go with the 5 inch plate though. It will give you some space between the end of the pad and the plate. There is less risk of the plate touching your paint.

in my opinion the 5 inch is better with a 6.5 pad - general rule of thumb is to have .75 inch beyond the backing plate for safety. But if your careful the 6 inch plate works fine - i just like the insurance

A 5" plate on a 6/6.5" pad will also allow more Velcro beyond the backing plate and reduce the chance of the plate cutting into the pad.

On a similar topic what`s the reason some say you CAN`T use the 5" backing plate with the 7.5" advanced LC pads?

    Thanks.
