    What machine to buy

    Hello
Sorry if this in the wrong area. New forum to me and trying to find some info. I am looking to get a new machine. I currently have a cyclo and while it has served its purpose I want to move on to a single head faster machine.

I was looking at the torq digital 21mm that chemical guys sells. I have heard mixed things about it and chemical guys in general

Should i steer clear and if so what should I look into? Rupes? Flex? Or griots new machine?
I am a hobbies aka weekend warrior so this is just for myself and help on friends cars
    Thanks for any info
    Chris

[QUOTE=Us1champ;2101212]Does anyone have any good bad or ugly in the
Chemical guys unit? Welcome to Autopia. I`d say look at what they offer & then what Autopia offers, that should tell you. Your looking at the torq digital 21. I`d pass on a 21mm machine & go w/ a 15mm. I don`t like the digital speed settings + you turn it off it, you have to punch it up again. I`d stick w/ the popular brand machines. You could start out w/ a GG6, PC which work great or step up to a Boss, Rupes 15. The Flex 3401 is a great machine which is geared towards product detailing. I just ordered a Boss 15 as the GG/PC whipped out my forearms from vibration of the machines. I too was looking at different machines including the Rupes duetto. btw nice Challenger you have.

We have switched exclusively to Griot`s, I would look at the gg6 with a 5 inch backing plate and a set of boss creams and pads. Then later you can step up to a 15 if you need more.

I would pass on the Chemical Guys units. The digital speed dial sucks and I had the luxury of seeing the internals on one of them. Stick with Griot`s or Rupes. I think Mike`s suggestion of starting out with the GG6 is good and when you`re ready for a large throw tool you can use the GG6 for 3" and 4" work.

I would skip on the chemical guys polishers as well. Having used one for a bit it just ain`t to snuff against a rupes but I haven`t tried the groits long throw but I`ve heard quite a bit of good bout them

IMHO Get the Rupes 21 MKII...You will not regret the purchase. Do it once. Do it right!
Put a 5" backing plate on it and it`s an awesome machine for compounding and finishing!

I would get a Griots GG6 or G15. They have unmatched customer service and the best warranty by far.

    Re: What machine to buy

Consider this--if you are just a hobbyist you might only use your polisher a few times per year. So say 3 or 4 years down the road you have problems with the polisher--with a Griots unit (either the GG6, G15 or G21) it will be covered by the lifetime warranty and most likely be replaced with a new unit. With any other polisher you`d be spending a good chunk of change to have it repaired. Even though the chances are slim, why take the chance.

Also, keep in mind that the GG6 can easily be changed from a 5" to a 3 or 4" backing plate for polishing tight areas like bumpers, mirrors, pillars etc--That is not the case with the G15 or 21. Mike`s suggestion from above is a sound direction to take. You may find the GG6 is all you`ll need.
