With a variable speed rotary it`s a non issue. You can select a very controllable speed with the backing plate and pad on. I have the Dremel 3000 rotary and depending on which pad I choose speed 2 or 3 work good for me with 1" pads. With 2" backing plate and pad I have to bump the speed up to 3 or 4.

Yeah pretty much what mike said. The speed is not insane , in my case with the WEN Tool I was fine with speed 1-2 and you can adjust pressure to slow it down or allow it to speed back up. The BP feels sturdy enough to handle that , just make sure you use a rotary with variable speeds.

*UPDATE ON PAINT TEST*
So long story short, no burn through after really trying to the point where my pad melted/shredded/deformed. For details and pics continue reading below.
Took readings of one spot that I marked the size of the pad, to stay on the same spot for sure. Readings before and after cutting and polishing session using orange light cutting/M105 and black finishing pad/M205 were pretty much the same 2.7 Mils / 70 Microns and there was swirl removal.

For the burn through test spot , I took the yellow pad which has the heaviest cut of them 3,some M105 and I just left it on the same spot for almost a full minute increasing the speed to pretty much a speed I personally wouldn`t use. Nothing, no burn through. Tried it again for 30 seconds,more product and higher speed, stopped and added more product then continued for another 30 seconds and nothing . Tried it aggressively (more than necessary really) on a panel edge and nothing either. it removed the swirls and cleaned the area nicely, but no burn through.

NOTE: Just because I did not experience burn through, does not mean that you will not. As most of us know, finishes will vary in thickness and "hardness" and I`m sure my test hood is a respray because normally this vehicle year/model is single stage and this hood is not plus when it was on the vehicle there was a yellowing to it compared to an actual SS panel. Also, if you plan on JUST getting the angled attachment like the one mikejames showed, I`d recommend doing what he did and getting BOTH so you can also have the flex attachment because your rotary tool (if like mine) will get pretty hot.

Thank you for this review Migue, great work! When using a variable speed rotary with the 1" backing plate and pad you have way more control then one might think. It`s not a runaway train. like when using a small rotary bit. lol If this weather ever warms up here I will do more testing also, I have some headlights on a pickup that needs some attention.
