My Meguiar`s 100v2 shot craps

Hey guys and gals, been a while since I`ve been around.

Anyway, I bought a Meguiar`s 100v2 back in September of 2011. It`s been absolutely trouble free the last, almost 5 years but yesterday something happened.

I was polishing a friends car, and it was working just fine. I stopped to talk a break, set it down, came back 5 minutes later and now it keeps cutting in and out. My first thought was after so many years, maybe the brushes were bad. I pulled them out and they seem okay, so I put them back in, still no change. And I would`ve just replaced them, but the spare set I had, I can`t seem too find.

So, will I need to order new brushes from Meguairs? Or can I pick them up at a hardware store? Or do you guys think that there may be something else wrong with it?

I`m okay with buying a new polisher if I have to, but if I can fix this one, I`d be good with it since it works so well.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If it`s cutting in and out, it`s probably the cord.

Since you`re out of warranty, just open up the polisher and replace the cord with a more heavy duty one. This is a common problem with these polishers.

I believe it is the cord as well. A buddy of mine had numerous problems with his doing the exact same thing. He eventually traced it back to the cord. I believe he had Meguiar`s replace it once, maybe even twice.

To test this, turn the machine on, then wiggle the cord back and forth, close by where it goes into the handle of the machine..
If it turns off and on as you move it, there lies the problem..
Enough friction between the cord and the opening and eventually, a wire rubs against something in there and starts shorting out..

If you know how to solder, sometimes, you can fix this with a little heatshrink tubing put on the wire before you solder it back up, then bring the two wires together, mesh all the strands evenly together, give a slight twist to hold them, carefully heat the wires first, then add silver solder from the top so it flows to the bottom, let it cool, slide the heatshrink over, heat it so it shrinks, and voila - you are good to go..

They sell new cords like that one at Home Depot even..
Just be careful, note where everything fits just right, and see if you can change the cord out..
If its not easy, perhaps someone on here lives close by and can come help you out ???

16 ga wires worked great on a polisher i upgraded the cord on. check the size on your`s first if you do upgrade.
