Re: 80um and under on hood

I find even with compund (FG400) and a Flex with an orange hybrid pad, I`m taking off more like 1-2 microns, not 7. Those are super thin readings for sure, man. I`ve had good results with Essence in those situations as it has fillers, but any heavy etching/rids are likely there to stay unless there`s a repaint.

In your strata for "Standards" please explain the difference between one coat of "wax sealant and glaze" and "10 coats".

How do you evaluate the difference between coats #8, 9 and 10

Did you review the manufacturers directions?

The only thing I have seen mentioned in regards to using Essence by hand is they recommend an Eraser wipe before applying the coating.

I believe Mike ran into this problem with a challenger as well. He used this, Kamikaze Artificial Clear Coat

I was referring to something like a combo of a coat of Poorboy`s glaze or two, then a few layers of EX as I heard it will fill some too, followed by a paste wax layer, or two. So perhaps call it 6 or so then because I think at the 7th layer you lose the ability to tell the difference.

Not that I was expecting it to fill everything and I didn`t even go that route anyways.

I didn`t really start the thread to discuss my unnecessary need to apply layers of products. It`s all a subjective eye of the beholder type of thing anyways.

At the end of the day I`m just a guy having a good time in the garage.

From what I read when it came out they said if applied by hand to follow with an ipa wipe. I didn`t check again.

I followed with pbl cleansing lotion by hand then wondered if the essence by hand really did anything. Sure looked good. Then I applied pbl.

None of that fixed the issue on the hood, however. If that was my hood I`d start saving to get it repainted or wrap it. It`s patchy under the lights and direct sun.

Maybe someone more skilled than me could have saved it. I do not know.

This is the first time I`ve seen a hood look like that, returning full circle to why I started this thread.

    Driver -
See if you can contact Bob at Auto Concierge about that DeFelsko meter before you pull the trigger.
I believe he has one and if so, he can tell you how it really works in the field...
Might save you some dinero... Or not....

Thanks Dan. Only problem is the essence and pbl made the hood`s patchiness stand out more IMO

    It`s pitiful up close, honestly

    Look @ that

Its also pretty rough like needs to ne clayed but im guessing that is because of the low or failing clear

I clayed it with clay mitt, then with clay just to dbl check yesterday.

Prolonged exposure to dual polymer ww, perhaps
.i kid...but i can`t help to think that him using that spray with light abrasives in it didn`t help his hood out either
