My shopping list

As posted in my other thread I`m just starting out with polishing/serious detailing. I`ve started a list, let me know if you think there are other items that would be better suited for my Black truck that needs a lot of TLC and the fact I`m just starting.

Griots 6in DA
5.5in plate
Lake country pads (haven`t decided on or know which color or quantity yet.)
"Possibly" grit guards
IronX
Meguirs m205 and m208
Blackfire wet diamond protection as LSP

I may have missed something, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Depending on how much correction is needed, Meguiars MF cutting pads. Not sure of M208 but Megs M100 is a really good compound. You`ll need IPA or Carpro Eraser or the like prior to LSP application. P21S Polishing Soap if you want to spruce up the exhaust tip(s). A mountain of MFs.

it should be 5inch backing plates and 5.5 pads.

Orange or white pads for polishing. at least 6.

I would say yes to grit guards and not possibly. why correct the paint on the truck if you aren`t willing to keep the swirls off it?

I would skip 105 unless you are prepared for short work times and some dusting, know how much product to use ect. It is the most aggressive compound megs makes I believe. Is your truck in need of that?

You might really enjoy optimum no rinse, optimums big red sponge, youll want to pick up the spray aide for your lsp, or use opti seal, after washing.

More towels, more pads.

I have trucks, the GG6 will take a while, esp for black. If its a Dodge you may have pretty hard paint. If you have the coinage the rupes polisher would save you some aggravation.

You will want something to wash your pads, I just throw them in the washing machine, but some people use APC`s or a pad washing detergent.

A clay bar or a clay mitt will be needed.

A hearty `yes` on the grit guards....for what it`s worth, I have the Griots pads in red (waxing) and orange (corrections)....like both a lot

If I were you, I`d consider Buff and Shine for the backing plate and 5.5 inch pads (work great on your polisher and will last forehva) and HD Cut and HD Polish in the new 8 oz sizes.

If you wanna keep it simple, the hydrotech pads are great. The orange and blue`s will do about anything youd need.

Also, something like HD Adapt will cover most paint defects, unless youre running into some really heavy stuff. If you need a lot of cut, 3D AAT is the way to go. Ive been disappointed with the cut of HD Cut. M101 is ok but i dont love it. Otherwise FG 400 or WG Uber are excellent.

Got clay? After Iron-X, you`ll want to clay the truck so the paint is completely decontaminated.

My list keeps getting longer and more expensive! I had hoped to keep it between 200-$250. Looks like it may be difficult.

I think I`ll try the HD polishes, I`ll add the grit guards. Any input on the last step, clay bar, and micro fiber towels that are affordable?

I still have some research to do, I appreciate all the help so far!

I think there are kits available with buckets, grit gaurds, polish, soap the whole 9.

The rag company is the best bet for affordable towels. Available via Amazon prime, too.

Instead of clay, get the red and blue nanoskin. About $22 and super easy to use. Less hassle than clay.

As as for an LSP, I`m a big Collinite fan. Start with 845. $18 for years worth, and being a liquid type, thin application is pretty easy.
