    Where can I get a PC 2474XP 5-inch counterweight?

Apologies - I know PC counterweights have been discussed a lot, but I could really use some help here. According to the discussions I`ve read on the web, the 2474XP usually comes with a 5" counterweight. Mine came with the 6" one, which is not what I need as I am not planning to use anything larger than a 5" plate. I see the 6" weight in several places, but not the 5". Could someone point me in the right direction, please?

Alternatively: Is there a major difference in the performance of the two CW?

DI has them. I only noticed a very minor difference. May have been placebo.

It`s been years but I`m pretty sure I got mine from AutoGeek. That said, ask Vega, he may have them. Actually I put one in a Harbor Freight DA at the same time I repacked the grease in it. Probably catch it for saying this but it`s actually very smooth considering it`s a $50 polisher.

The counter weight will make a difference when sanding, but will not matter with a backing plate and pad.

I believe most if not all of us here who use a PC haven`t bothered changing the counter weight. I`ve had mine for over 2 years and always used a 5" backing plate. Since getting my Rupes I just use my PC for the brush attachments. Haven`t had a single issue with it and vibration isn`t anything that makes me concerned at all

Correct- those are related to using a single sheet of sandpaper on the PC factory backing plate. What we`re doing on cars is a whole `nother situation entirely.

Noting that I haven`t used an XP (only the older PCs), I find that with a backing plate and a pad (let alone wet with product) the 6" counterweight works fine with everything down to a 3" plate/pad setup.

PC parts are available from any of the places that sevice them, forget where I got my various PC parts but it was easy enough to find them.

Thanks so much, all! Sounds like there is no rush to get one then. I`ll might still order one from DI or a PC service place, just so I have one, but I won`t make it an extra order. Thanks again!

You`re actually going backwards, back in the day most of us got PC`s with 5" counterweights, and we wanted to change them to 6". As has been noted, it never really made any noticeable difference anyway.

Right! Doing detailing-type work generally involves putting much more weight on the machine (if only from the pad w/product) so you`d want the bigger counterweight anyhow.

Wonder how a PC "sanding plate" with one sheet of paper stuck to it would compare to, say... a 3.5" "detailing plate" with a 4" foam pad throughly primed with product as per the KBM. Bet the "little polishing setup"might weigh more than the "larger sanding setup".

Just leave me a note in the comments section of your next order and I`ll add a free used one to your order*.
