I`m going to purchase the new GG random orbital. It says it`s a 6` buffer, does that mean only 6 inch pads work or can 5.5 pads work?

you can use 6.5" pads as there`s 6 inches of velcro loop to accommodate the stock backing plate that comes with the GG6. i would pick up a 5" DA backing plate and get some 5.5" flat pads...

Agree with what Al said. Even though the GG has the power to rotate larger pads you`ll get better results with the 5.5" pads. Keep in mind a six pack of 5.5" pads is $15 less than a six pack of 6.5" pads so with your first purchase you save enough to buy the 5" BP then you save $$ each time you buy more.

Buff & Shine, Uber and HD pads seem to be the same.

jw- Note that there are a lot of newfangled pads coming out these days.

But I like Meguiar`s MF cutting disk for serious correction. You could do a lot worse than just using GG`s orange polishing pad after the MF cutting disk does the heavy work. That GG pad will finish out OK on most paints, but you could burnish things a little with a finishing pad from Lake Country.
