When I use my PC on speed 5 or 6 for 5-10 minutes it gets super hot at the spindle. To the point where I have to waste time removing and cooling my pads so I don`t cook them (did this once already).

Is there something I can do to reduce this? I dont think I put excessive pressure on the machine. Maybe rotating between two pads?

Check to see if the spindle is getting loose, is there enough gear lub in the gear head, is your backing plate showing uneven wear(if it "wobbles" in the least, will create heat in the gear head), several things to look explore.

Thanks, I`ll check the lube first. I wanted to replace it with some stuff I like better anyways.

If yours is an early model, the counter weight on some of them worked a little bit loose and that can create heat in the head as well.

Do you have a compression washer between the backing plate and spindle?

Yes I had the washer on and I put some additional grease in the head because maybe a year or two ago it was on its side and I remember a little bit dripped out. We`ll see what happens now.

It`s not unbearable hot, just a time waster and can ruin pads.
