Welcome to the forum! We have thousands of posts just like yours...please use the search function and you will easily find the answer to this question and many more. I`d recommend the Porter Cable XP, it`s a random orbit. The dewalts and makitas you see are rotary polishers that have a much longer learning curve.

Short answer: Flex 3401 or Griot`s 6" Random Orbital. I`d buy xfire`s Flex if I didn`t already have one.
+1 on the random orbit polishers, whether it be a Flex, Griots or PorterCable. The learning curve is low and you get some peace of mind knowing that the chance of burning paint is relatively low. Personally I have a PorterCable 7424XP polisher and I love it!
Hope the input helps!

I just ran across a video at Autogeek.net that may help you make the right choice for you. In the upper right corner of their homepage, click "Autogeek`s Show Car Garage. Scroll down about half way and check out the video titled "How to Pick the Correct Polisher"
