From what I understand, the LC Cyan pad has near the cutting power of a LC yellow pad, but finishes nicer than a LC Orange.

The LC Tangerine, has slightly more cut than a LC white pad but finishes off just as if not slightly better than an LC white.

Therefore, are these LC Hydro-tech "twins" an appropriate replacement for the LC yellow, orange, green (cutting) and white pads? I ask because I am about to make my first pad purchase, and the idea of being able to stock just a LC Cyan, Tangerine and a LSP applicator pad (gold) is very appealing for simplification purposes.

    Thanks!

EDIT: I must also add that my standards may not be as high as some of you here, as I am detailing my own daily drivers and I am not aiming for perfection. So with that info, can I get away with only having the LC Hydro-Tech pads?

I believe both lines have their place and I couldn`t do without both. The Hydro pads work better on harder paints. Softer paints, I`ll stick with the LC line all day.

Heh heh, I`m still waiting for somebody to do a direct comparison between the LC Tangerine pads and the Griot`s orange ones that I like so much.

The softest paints I work on are the ss lacquer on my Jag and the clear on the Mazda MPV. On those, the Griot`s orange finishes out OK. Maybe not quite as good as a true finishing pad, but certainly fine for daily drivers. I often use them for AIOs and back in the day I even used them for LSPs.

I found the Hydro-Tech LC pads to work well with M105/M205 and HD UNO (all of which seem to get pulled to the interior of my other pads very quickly, polish saturating the pad instead of staying near the surface).

I`ve only had a chance to use the HTLC pads a couple of times, but was pretty happy with the results, at least in combo with the polishes mentioned above.

I have both LCHT Cyan and Tangerine. Only missing a HT finishing pad... if they ever come out with one.

Leadfoot luke what do you think of the pads? I have used the edge 4 inch pads exclusively but when I pull the trigger on the GGRO I was going to step up to 5.5 pads and was considering the hydrotechs

I have used 4" Cyan and Tangerines while I was testing out my 7424xp, and with my RO I decided to step up to the 5.5" pads as well, but I have not had good enough weather to try them out. I was very impressed with the 4" pads though. I did blow up one cyan due to steam separating the backing velco, but that was my only issue.

I love the HT pads, but as mentioned by DJ, both lineups have their place. Some paints require the standard flat pads. i did a S2000 and the HT tangerine would stop the PCXP from spinning with menzerna 203 as it was super grabby. I switched it out to a white pad and it worked just fine.

I will say that you still need to finish with a blue or black pad if you are going for the insane gloss factor. While the HTtangerine finishes quite well, there is room for improvement.

When it comes to cutting pads, Hydro Techs are basically all I`ve been using. However, I still follow with CCS finishing pads for jeweling or applying sealants.
