I recently got a Porter Cable and have been using it with the 1Z Black Bottle polishes and I can`t seem to get a perfect surface. I am getting some buffer trails and can`t understand why, as I am doing it by the book. I am thinking that it maybe the polishes, so I was wondering what is the best fine polish to get a halogram free surface?

I know that optimum polish and utrafina are nice, and the Meg`s now has a professional line fine polish.

    Any suggestions?

    THanks

It would be helpful to just tell us what you are using now, the polish and pad combos that are leaving the holograms.

purplenurple- First, let me say that I am *generally* a big fan of 1Z products, and I used their Pasta Intensiv and High Gloss with good results.

    BUT...

-I was using them on pretty hard (or *very* hard) clear

-I used them with 4" (and/or 3.5" PFW for the Pasta Intensiv) when using the PC

I have since switched to M105 for my aggressive product (and I only use *that* on hard paint too). I still use the High Gloss for my finishing polish, but again, only on my harder-paint vehicles.

I suspect that your paint is just a bit too soft for the High Gloss to finish out right, and that could also mean that the Pasta Intensiv is simply too aggressive to be using on that vehicle period.

IIRC, guys who`ve used both the 1Z and other products sorta lean towards Menzerna FPII for finishing out on soft paints. Wonder what Bence and SuperBee364 would suggest

    True ^^

Strictly sticking to your question however, a huge amount of people really enjoy Menz

PO85 for finishing. I personally use PB SSR1 and have been very happy.

I really have to say Ultrafina is probably one of if not "THEY" very best finishing polish I`ve ever come across. I haven`t tried them all but once I started using UF I really stopped looking for another finishing polish.

UF works great with a rotary, but with a PC you want M205.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I generally use IP and HGP with 5inch LC lo-pro orange and white pads. Different combos depending on paint, correctio, etc...

The clear on my GTO is pretty soft, so that explains that, but not why I would get halograming/light swirling on our MBs (2 s-classes and 1 m-class).

A lot of times the polish gets hard to remove, and I think that that may be causing the light halograming/swirling, but I do try to use ONR qd for removal. COuld it be the regular (not waffle, pitted, etc) flat pads causing too much heat and thus drying out of the polish which causes the drying out and perhaps the inability of all the abrasives to brake down?

    THanks for any further input.

I guess that I should look into UF and M205, but do also have the 4* spray on finishing polish and the WG glaze (slightly abrasive), and possibly some fancier pads that dissipate heat better.

Does Ultrafina has fillers? Looking for a finishing polish. M205 leaves some slight holograms on my Audi A3 with the new 2.0 finishing pad on the 3401 flex.

IMHO Menzerna 106FA will finish very nicely with a white or black (probably better) pad on soft paint via PC.

While I haven`t tried 205, I have to say that UF works fantastic with the pc.

The other day after washing and claying my car, I cleaned up the paint with UF and an orange pad with the pc. The paint came out looking beautiful, didn`t dust and removed alot of marring as well. Topped it off with Magic Wax.

The flex never left holograms on any type of paint in my experience. I`d say that those holograms on your car were there before you used 205.

I don`t even know how to create holograms with the flex.

How would Dodo lime prime fit in? It has cut and removes swirles. Is the finish good?

Finishing polishes - my goodeness the market is full these days!

If you are working by DA then I would personally recommend Menzerna PO85RD Final Finish, the abrasives used in Menzerna`s range seem to suit the action of the DA best and while other polishes (Ultrafina, #205 etc) all work well too, the Menzerna just seems to have a slight edge in my opinion.

By rotary, things change around, as #205 really begins to come into a class of its own - PO85RD has long been my favourite finishing polish, Ultrafina was always second to it as while good it just wouldn`t match the absolute clarity and depth I could get with 85RD on the softest paint finishes (harder paints, nothing to choose between them). But now, #205 has become the polish I will largely reach for when it comes to finishing, alongside 85RD - I say alongside, as 205 has additional cut to it that is sometimes not desired if simply refining is the name of the game. But for clarity and a little bit more cut, #205 is the new king as far as I am concerned, and despite its quite high price in the UK it ranks as my favourite finishing polish.

im fairly new to the DA, but ive always finnished with meguiars #9, and it looks great... i dont think that qualifies as a final polish though. does the megs professional line other than 105 and 205 offer any good "final polishes?"
