    Hello!

I plan on purchasing a Makita 9227 for the upcoming detailing season, and thought I`d inquire about a good pad combo for the initial purchase. My cars range from nearly perfect paint, to heavy swirled with many RIDS, so I`d probably need a `full spectrum` of pad combos. I`ve been using a PC with 4" LC pads for the past couple years (with good results!), and feel its time to upgrade to a rotary.

I`ve done a bit of reading on the foam vs. wool, but thought I`d come here and ask the folks who actually use this stuff! And secondly, what`s a good size to start with?

    I appreciate the input!

    Thank you VERY much!

Some 6.5" pads coupled with your current 4" pads would do the job. Some like 5.5" and some think pads larger than 6.5" are difficult to control (at least foam). 6.5" Lake Country foam is probably the most popular. As far as pad aggressiveness...FPW, orange, white, green, black, and blue is what I use. Blue, red, and the new gold are really soft and aren`t going to offer any real correction power; just jeweling/burnishing. I haven`t used a lot of wool pads. I`m sure others can recommend what they prefer.

I`d also recommend the Meg`s W66 backing plate.

Purple wool hands down, get a few of the smaller ones too. Those combined with orange/white/blue foam and there`s not much you won`t be able to correct.

Soft pads work best with a rotary. Megs Tan, yellow and LC german green.
