Finishing down with rotary

Looks like a lot of rotary owners finish down with DA. Is there anyone that uses rotary to get the paint lsp ready and can this be done using Optimum line as this is what i have...

I have had really good luck finishing LSP ready just takes a practice. I use either 106 or 85RD on black pad at about 900RPM starting with medium pressure work to light pressure. Trial and error will get the right amount of pressure for the hardness of paint you are working with.

I use the rotary with a finishing polish and pad.

With a soft finishing pad and finishing polish you should be pretty much hollogram free with some practice.

I`ve been finishing with the blue Soft Edge polishing pad, which seems to be between a finishing and polishing pad, using Poli-Seal. On softer paints, I finish with the UDM.

I agree with Scott the blue edge pad works great,with light pressure.

I beleive the rotary will always yield a better finish than an RO on all soft or hard surfaces, I use low after high rpm to finish and 100% of the time I find a higher gloss and more clarity than finishing with an RO (PC etc.).

Very important what you said. If you finish in a soft paint with an AIO via rotary you`ll leave holograms.

I could finish with a rotary without leaving holograms and with a superb finish. With a machine like the Flex you`ll achieve the same result depending on what you use (polish and pad).

Get some 3M Ultra Fina and one of 3Ms blue foam pads.

Work it in for 1 min at 800.

Move up to 1500 and apply some pressure.

Finish at 800-1000 with no pressure.

Even on the softest black paint you should not have holograms.

Amen brother on the 3M Ultrafina and 3M blue pads! I learned on a 2006 Nissan Maxima - BLACK, and it turned out so good it convinced me to switch to 3M for Extra Cut, Ultrafina and all 3M pads.

Yes, just did a black corvette with the ultra fina. I wish i could have taken pictures, but my brother took it too quick Came out amazing.... I love 3m products, they always deliver.

I do this all the time with the above products. I don`t see any reason why you shouldn`t be able to do this with the Optima line but I just prefer Menzerna or 3M.

I just starting finishing with a white polishing pad and some Menzerna Final Polish. Try to keep my rpms around 1500 or setting 3 on my makita

Just a FYI, (I`m not dissing your method) Ultrafina SE is designed to be applied at 1800rpm starting with medium pressure, reducing to light pressure, then wiped off. You don`t have to apply it slow for a swirl free finish. Doing it like that, you should be done your panel in the first minute. That was one of the plus points about the 3000 line was you don`t have to spend a lot of time going fast then slow, just slap it on, spin it around, wipe it off. Give it a try and I think you`ll be pleasantly surprised.

In all honesty, I`m surprised there`s not a huge hype over the system like there was when 106FF came out and was THE THING to have. The 3000 system is incredible if you ask me.

I do all but application of sealants (cheapo orbital) with a rotary

It`s pretty easy to get a hologram free finish with a yellow pad, if you finish down at 900 then 600 to 750.

Honestly I don`t see the need for a DA to finish up any paintwork

lately I`ve begun finishing with blue and red LC pads now.

Especially good with my "Wet Dream" QD at 750 to 950 rpm
